Collected my beer order in Vea. The girl said she thought it was me when she had collected it earlier given my ''strange name''.
Shall try it tomorrow once it's chilled to see what it's like. I see it has a 5.5% alc so it's got a bit of oomph.

it was a safe assumption that a large order of beer matched a British surname. 😂

Nothing great but at £1 for a litre bottle I can't complain.

On the second bottle of this. I prefer beer that tastes and this doesn't taste at all. Hard to believe it's from the same maker as their excellent cream stout.

Their cream stout and their IPA are their best beers. I dont like any of their lagers.

Well I won't be buying it again even at the 50% off I got it at. Even Quilmes has more taste. As for IPA I think I've only had the Salta one and it had a perfume taste. Put me right off IPA.

Try the Quilmes IPA - its actually the cheapest of all the IPAs but I actually think its one of the best. Coms in a green can
the Andes one is quite good as well

I'll give the Quilmes a go.

Got up to 27.5c today and I'm just back from the countryside where I was working. Arrived with a bit of a drooth so opened another bottle of Imperial dishlager. Have to say it performs slightly better when you're gasping for a drink.

I must admit, when I'm in CABA I drink those litre bottles of Imperial "dishlager" . With a tray of stale crisps and peanuts it gets the evening underway.

I suspect it'll soon be a can rather than a bottle. The bottles of everything seem to be on the way out.

It has a bit more of a brandy taste than I expected. Sweeter from the barrel i imagine. Nice to sip a drink. At least I know it is not sweeter from corn mash. They have a peaty one which I should try. Plus it is nice to try and support a whisky produced on a smaller scale, with the promise of 100% malted barley. So no corn, and not like all the cheap nacional brands made of partial grain alcohol. There is a bunch of craft whisky that have grown up recently. I need to try them. Still a long way from a real single malt scotch.

Looks a bit pricey to me so doubt I'd be tempted to buy it without tasting it first....especially with me being Scottish. I'd probably go for the ''peaty'' one first.

Yes, It was more of a splurge item that might let me savor at a slower pace. A better value knowing the same price blended whisky imports do not really cost what they overcharge.

In October 2023 I bought a bottle of La Mandinga gin (500 ml) in a specialty coffee place where I get my coffee before class. The price was $4000 which was cheap compared to other local brands.
Yesterday, I stopped for my coffee, spotted the bottle, asked for the price and I was told $5400 after checking a spreadsheet on the computer.
"I'll take it!", I said. But the guy then said "Wait, let me check the price again with the owner".
He whatsapped the owner and a few minutes later it was quote 12,000.
"I'll leave it!", I said. And left.
I didn't particularly like this gin, but it was the cheapest artesanal gin I found when I bought it in 2023.
Now, the relationship between coffee price and gin price in 2023 was not 1:9 like yesterday.
I would say 1:4 or 1:5.

This happens a lot nowadays.
I was in a local shop the other day where Adri had bought a bottle of Havana rum for me a few weeks ago at $9500, so I asked how much it was.
The young man looked confused because it was on the top shelf, clearly expensive and he couldn't find the price on a crib sheet tucked out of sight of we customers.
In the end he asked the cashier - the bloke who really drives the sales machine - who then got on his phone, messaged someone unknown and the young man eventually gave me a price of $11500, quite a steep increase over a few weeks, but not surprising really.
Anyway, I bought a bottle because I already knew the other street prices, proving that you have to possess a certain 'viveza criolla' as a virtue in this country.

Cider isn't terribly popular here, although I think it's making a resurgence. When in the UK we're spoilt for choice and Thatcher's Gold is our favourite.
The other day I bought a small bottle of 1888 (also available in cans) for Adri to try and although it was crisp and sweet, it was a little too tangy (sharp) for me, so I stuck to Imperial Golden which is now my favourite because it's so light.
