Argentina's cosy relationship with Russia

    In December 2021 Alberto Fernandez signed an agreement for Russia to train Argentine soldiers in Russia, for free. No charge. Not sure what Russia gets out of this, but maybe a base in Argentina. Certainly a nuclear power plant or two.

    But with the IMF agreement looming very close, this government now needs to start mending a few bridges with the USA. In fact, only three weeks ago, the president was shaking hands with Putin in the Kremlin and declaring that Argentina is the front door of South America, through which Russia will be welcome to pass at any time.

    Talk about swimming against the tide, but of course the Peronists always believe that their way is the best way even if the proven methods have always been shown to be the most effective. But no, isolationism is always the best policy if the hag with the chicken neck is telling you what to do.

    Talking of whom, she hasn't uttered a word since the Russian invasion began because she's so in bed with Putin that it would hurt for her to leave it and say something that might upset the tyrant.

    The uncertain, contradictory foreign policy of the current government of Argentina is one of the most serious mistakes ever done in this country,

    Perhaps one can go back to history and say that the same policy was practised in WWII, when USA pressed Argentina to join the Allies. But we have to recall that the UK, through Churchill, had advised to the USA not to insist in that demand, as Argentine ships could go to UK without being torpedoed by the Uboot. UK needed to receive our agricultural and beef commodities. UK needed a neutral Argentina.

    But this is not the case today. It is a completely erred policy. But from the Peronist what can you expect?

    I was hoping Argentina would be a safe haven like during and after WWI & WWII. I just hope el titere stays out of it. However, he was brushing his feathers with Vladi at the Kremlin less than one month ago, and militarily speaking, Argentina is a joke. More than DDL and buena onda, we don't have to bring to the plate. Also, commercially our crops are being exported to the US so that's where the money is at for Argentina.

    Argentina is a fairly safe haven, compared to most places.


    Almost all of my Scottish relatives live within 40 kms of Faslane, where the UK keeps the country's nuclear arsenal.


    With Putin acting strangely, that does preoccupy me a little.

    Fernandez’s timing for kissing up to Putin was not the best. Just weeks before the rest of the world turns its back on the Russian dictator, the Argentine president declares fealty to him. Not smart in terms of relations with other countries.

    He's got himself stuck in a hole to a certain extent what with the agreements he's made with Putler, but can he bring himself to cancel the military training and the nuclear plants?
