I remember the missus going on about how wonderful the beef milanese were in Argentina so my expectations were high when I eventually had one for the first time. 20 odd years later and I have to say I've never thought any of the ones I've had were that great. I certainly wouldn't travel that distance for one. Truth be told I prefer them made with chicken.

I’ve got to admit that milanesas of any kind are not my favorite food. But everyone is so crazy about them that I thought it was just me.

Another overrated item here is Pan Dulce. Every brand I've tried has been crap up until I tried this one. If you're willing to splash the cash the Steinhauser brand really is a cut above the rest...by a mile. It's more like a good quality stollen. Has to be said I do spread butter on mine...the missus thinks I'm a philistine!!

Will look for Steinhauser, UK Man . Thanks!
I like butter on mine too, and served toasted.
That's exactly how I like mine because it then tastes like hot cross buns.

Worth giving it a go. It's moist with plenty of fruit/nuts. I never thought of toasting it so shall give it a go.

Even better when oven toasted so the top is lightly crisped and the bottom is soft. The browned butter adds so much!

Pan dulce is over rated ...
My favourite Xmas thing is Madeira Cake..is this common anywhere outside Scotland.
Most disappointed I couldn't fin it on the Island of Madeira when I visited.

My granny always had Madeira cake when I visited her all year round. I haven't had it in yonks even when I lived there. Tunnocks Tea Cakes were always my favourite...even the missus loves them. She told me the other day you used to be able to buy them here. Must have been years before I came.

GlasgowJohn , is it infused with Madeira??

Argentine wine are underrated...then again, that's usually by those who are wine snobs rather than real experts.
