hairyscotsman, living in Argentina is a far hairier business than you'd imagine.
After six years here, and now during impelling health risks, I am very uncomfortable with Argentina.
Because before it was 'they're late' or 'the pipe leaks' or 'you can't buy more than 200 USD legally' but it was not affecting basic human rights.
Whereas right now the blatant inability to play on an international field, manage the country, impose rule, come up with effective and fact-based strategies is too evident.
Okay for the nice weather and the beautiful scenery and the good spirit... but if you are locked up, can't go out, can't socialize, can't travel... what's left?
Rising crime? Odd rules? Banks unables to be banks and supply money because there is a long weekend and the machine can hold only so much bills?
Yes i can see that just with reading the papers online over the last 6 months and speaking to guys and my GF down in Patagonia.
I am lucky in that i will only be in Argentina for 2 months most years....all things going well.

Yeah apart from the very annoying economic situation and other nonsense that goes on it's still a good place to live as long you've got a regular income to sustain a decent standard of living. If you don't then this isn't the place to be.
As you all know, our September flight to the UK was cancelled so I'm going to simulate it in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator, EZE to LGW and hope to upload it for your pleasure later on.
The big advantage to that is I can reduce the flight to any time amount that I like. Don't you just love virtual reality?

British airways cancelled my flights on 2nd sept today....So that will be that for a while...
I think i have to wait until domestic flights are running on at least a semi regular schedule...Contemplating meeting her in Cancun in a few weeks if these flights happen...4 flights now since march cancelled....

The government have been very astute .....
They haven't banned anything but the airlines think they will do so at the last minute , so they are cancelling their schedules to cut costs.
Who are the baddies?

I don't know much about air travel, but surely all direct routes to the UK are now under threat long term? Could BA be the only direct option left (hello high prices), or could BA even decide to stop offering its route?

Apart from the Norwegian service BA were the only ones to offer a direct service to the UK. We rarely flew BA as we had to connect to get to/from Scotland anyway. So we prefer to use Iberia especially the day flight option from Madrid and it meant we can stopover in Spain for a day or two.
Apart from Norwegian disappearing I don't see much changing once things get back to normal.
So, we left Argentina in the nick of time, as it turned out.
Getting my wife permanent residency if we were to start now would be infinitely more complicated than it was.
Regarding flights, it is all but certain is that the “special flight“ regime will continue for a while, at least through November. There have now begun to be flights with some degree of regularity, there are two weekly flights to Miami, one to New York, some to Madrid (and maybe Rome?), and one or 2 weekly Air France and KLM flights. Requests by several airlines to increase their frequencies have, as far as I know, been turned down.
Longer term, even if Argentina begins to allow “regular“ flights to operate, it is very unlikely that schedules will return to anything near to what they were a year ago. For as long as Argentina does not allow foreigners to enter - and that appears to be a long ways off - and even after it does, it makes very little economic sense to maintain daily flights for most airlines.
Warren Buffett pulled out of airline stocks completely at the very beginning of this pandemic, and events appear to be justifying his attitude.
