The coronavirus is showing the US that pretending it is under control is not a winning strategy. The state of Florida now has more cases than the entire European Union.
Stop and let that sink in!Since this thread deals with the virus in all countries, I thought it might also be interesting to see what Angela Merkel has to say:
"As we are experiencing firsthand, you cannot fight the pandemic with lies and disinformation any more than you can fight it with hate or incitement to hatred," Merkel said. "The limits of populism and denial of basic truths are being laid bare."

A 41 year old man went psychotic due to Covid 19 and was admitted to St Thomas's hospital in London, later being sectioned under the mental health act.
He's since recovered but he had an awful 20 day ordeal, as did his wife who had to listen to him divulge numerous secrets about his previous sexual encounters.
I've included a link to the BMJ as opposed to the salacious gutter press.
QuotePatient’s perspective
I was taken to hospital on the 4th April with what I would describe as the worst headache of my life. At this time, I had been suffering with the symptoms of COVID-19 for over a week. As the ambulance came, I confessed to my wife that I had sex with men (most of which before marriage), although I am heterosexual. I felt that I was incapable of lying or hiding the truth and thought I was dying.
I was in hospital for a total of 20 days with psychosis and mania, which I experienced as fascinating. This may seem strange from an outside perspective, but I was, in my mania, trying to help the doctors as much as I could, while at the same time trying to make sense of my condition. I began to think that I was part of a TV show, in which I was sent back from the future to save the NHS, and I was curious to see how this would end.
For my family and friends it was frightening. Luckily, they had a lot of support from each other, and from the great team of doctors at St. Thomas hospital.

Just as Bolsonaro pointed out: This is no big deal. Simply a little flu.

Out here in the sticks we're all walking about as if we're attending a convention for masked bandits. It's a totally farcical situation being milked by politicians.....most of whom are numpties.

Here nearly 4 months after it started they continue to go way OTT with the rules especially the mask wearing. Then of course when it's all over Fernandez especially will blame the disastrous state of the economy on either Macri and now the virus.
While in Scotland wee Nicola Sturgeon has been using it to get one over the English with her I'll ease the quarantine rules when it suits me not when it suits England attitude.

Our braid must be wired to connect our language to nursery rhymes? Anyway, I rather like “numpty” and will fold it into my vocabulary .

Back to the topic of Coronavirus Around the World -
This morning the New York Times reported:“There is now only one high-income country in the world in which the virus is spreading rapidly: the United States. Even in Sweden — which has had one of the least successful responses to the virus — the number of new cases has plummeted in the past two weeks.
By The New York Times | Source: Johns Hopkins University In China, Japan, South Korea and several other Asian countries, the virus is under even better control than in Europe or Canada. “

GlasgowJohn , your Guardian article paints a grim picture of Buenos Aires, with 230 deaths per million compared to 60 in GBA and 41 in the country as a whole.
Yet BsAs is beginning a gradual reopening, as the number are rising? Have they looked at their beloved Florida? -

We will know sometime on Thursday , I think.
Alberto , Larreta and Kicillof are meeting in Los Olivos right now
After the two week additional quarantine , the figures are not exciting . The province is particularly bad . Hard to predict what will happen.
Lots of gossip on the news bulletins but I prefer to wait for the real news.
