Eeh, by eck lad!
Not sure it's the same in Buenos Aires but here folk I don't know greet in passing. I sometimes return the greeting in English which confuses them.
In the capital, I never found them friendly when I arrived a few years back.
I was used to saying Good Morning to everyone I passed in the small town I lived in, in Spain.
I started here doing the same but soon stopped.
Definitely more friendly out in the country in the middle of nowhere.
Agree. The same everywhere. In cities, people quickly lose their small-town friendliness to strangers. It’s a pity.
On the other hand, northerners in the UK are very suspicious of southerners. When I first met my second wife, who was from West Yorkshire, often referred to by them as God's Country, we went to her local pub in Huddersfield and as I walked in with her, the entire pub fell silent and all eyes fell on me.
I found it quite amusing and after a few pints with her very close-knit group, all the barriers came down, up to a point.
