It was years ago that expats were throwing their guesses on when the dollar would hit 20. Mine was January 2016, I think, so well off.
It's January 31st 2018 and the dollar is at 19,93. Close enough.

I suppose we could take for granted that the final answer will be February 2018. At last!
It was 20 for a time this morning in the financial markets.
Where will it end the year? I imagine the government will try and work the markets for a while to maintain this level.
But my bet is 22 / 23 at the end of 2018

At a legit Casa de Cambio in Mar del Plata, they are offering 20.40 today.
Farmers said last week that the dollar should be at 32 for them to reach back the exporting levels of 10 years ago, but that 27 would do it. We are still far from it!
Ante la pérdida de mercados, productores frutícolas piden un dólar de $ 27

I'm joining the farmers -- would love to see 27.

On a side note: at Disco a pack of Buitoni imported from Italy costs 47 pesos against 55 of Del Verde made in Argentina.
There is also canned peeled tomatoes from Salerno for 18 pesos the can, imported Grana Padano, Parmigiano Reggiano, Pecorino all for about 230 pesos for 200 g.

I can just taste the dinner you are cooking tonight!

No wonder that the dollar is following the inflation, and it is still behind the real value. That is the reason on how many argentineans travel all around the globe. My granddaughters are now in weird, distant places as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia. Nothing related with Western culture.
When I was young, the mandatory travel was to USA or Western Europe. We had an eurocentric culture. Young people prefer other countries, to my dismay.

I understand your point about Eurocentric cultures. Part of the appeal of Eastern countries to young people could be that, despite globalism, they retain an exotic character unlike those of Western countries, whose architecture, foods, clothing styles, ubiquitous McDonalds and other signs of historic as well as current culture could make a Western traveler feel he/she has never left home.

That is quite right, but I prefer to visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, than to see people living in boats in Vietnam. It is a question of generation, I think.

Indeed. Vive la différance!

You lost: it was in May 2018. From now on, you'll be labeled an optimist!

I’m feeling great nostalgia. For the poor old peso, not for Josefina.

For those hoping that dolarisation will fix all the woes of this basket case economy, it ain't going to happen. It would be like baggage - you still take it all with you wherever you go.
