I vote for closure, because the UK has its own problemos, like the aftermath of it exiting from the EU last year, now the transition period is now over

But somehow I feel that the title of this thread still has mileage in it, unfortunately. Even now that he in an ex-president.

He is threatening to come back in some way. I'm still figuring out, if he gets prosecuted for the insurrection of two weeks ago, there will be no more mileage on Trump
Also, so glad that Trump's right hand person, Pompeo was wrong in saying after the election was lost, that Trump will still be in office after the 20th

Well anyway, his unreality show will no doubt continue, where hopefully he will be ignored as time goes on.

Let's give Jonathan Pie the last word on the preceding four years.

First President to be impeached twice....the boy done well. Just shows how farcial this whole charade is. Have they nothing better to do with their time?

But a republican senator wants to impeach Biden. It shows you how toxic US politics is

THAT is indeed farcical.
But someone please tell me this: if Boris Johnson raised a ragtag army of cultists and incited them to smash into Parliament, looting and vandalizing, looking for particular members by name, calling for hanging, with a noose ready to go, would you want him to be barred from holding future office?
Anyway, back to the Star of every show, the Bride at every wedding, the Corpse at every funeral - -
The Washington Post writer who has been keeping track of the former president’s lies and misleading statements during the past four years (30,573, or an average of 21 per day)has prepared this bar graph showing when they were most prolific.

I'm not arguing about what Trump did on the 6th, what I'm saying, in general the whole political scene is so toxic. This is what Washington once warned against, that parties, like the Democrats and Republicans are going to tear the US apart. He was against joining a particular party for what is happening these days

Better than a one party state, like Russia, Turkey and North Korea. It might be messy, but it works.

Here's Trump quiz you may want to complete:
Remembering four years of bullshit: take our commemorative Trump quiz

Scored 7 out of 7, thanks not to memory as much as his very predictability.

Glad that Splinter didn't close this thread
A few weeks ago, Trump claimed that POTUS can't be impeached during the last weeks of his presidency. I think there is a level of comedy that some people can take
His impeachment trial is now running

That “constitutional” objection was the life raft the Republican senators desperately hoped could save them from having to go on record with “guilty” or “not guilty” votes. (Voting “guilty” means that trump cultists who believe the election was stolen from him will vote against them in the next election. Voting “not guilty” means they will be held in disdain by history books all future generations of Americans will read and understand. This is not a vote about which candidate the senators backed; rather, it is a vote about whether they endorse a politician’s ability to overturn the legal votes of the people, and whether they approve of insurrection. A tough choice, eh?)
The Senate just voted by a margin of 6 crossover republicans, that the trial is constitutional and will proceed.
The senators now have two choices: voting on the basis of the facts presented, or voting out of fear that they will lose their jobs.
Note: at the beginning of this impeachment trial, all senators, as jurors, took an oath to uphold the constitution and serve as impartial jurors.

For those interested in the US Senate’s impeachment trial but confused about the process, here is a helpful flow chart.

Unfortunately I don't think he will be convicted, due to the republicans who will see it as a betrayal.

... or who fear that his voters will see it that way.
Today, the House managers presented a compelling timeline that included terrifying new videos, including Capitol security footage, showing among other things, the insurrectionists searching for trump’s own VP, chanting “hang Mike Pence!” The newly-released videos also showed how close all 100 senators, who will be voting, were to being dragged out by the mob.
Yet many of these jurors refused to look at the video screens, not wanting to be bothered by facts, not wanting to have to acknowledge what in their hearts, they already know.
Some of the senators, to show their disdain, even adopted the posture of the rioters, feet disrespectfully on their desks.
The United States has never suffered such a blow from our own people against our government. And who could ever have imagined that US senators would be complicit in an attempted coup. We are a banana republic.
[On the bright side, while the Republican senators are showing themselves to be a wholly-owned subsidiary of trump, inc., the Republican voters are waking up, and are standing up to be counted. According to the NYT:
“The ripple effects of the siege are now being felt at a granular level. An analysis of January voting records by The Times found that nearly 140,000 Republicans had quit the party across 25 states since the attack.”]

But do his supporters want the Democrats an overwhelming majority in the Senate? I doubt it, there were votes against Trump, but also votes for the GOP senators, a clear vote against Trump
