Splinter - How does the paperback option work? You pay to print it yourself and then ship it when Amazon makes a sale?
I don't pay a penny since it's print on demand. When someone orders a copy, they print one off, or however many the customer has ordered.
The author doesn't get involved in the process of shipping and simply receives a royalty at the appropriate time.
Zero outlay.

I did not know this, man I am so out of the loop on this stuff these days.
Does this mean, for example, I self-publish a book of poerty I wrote and someone buys it, they could receive a printed version if they choose that option?

You can choose to publish as paperback, Kindle or both when you upload the material. When the customer orders a copy, a printed version arrives at their door. Simple.
I've written a guide about this at DCT, so here are some links, which you may find handy.

Of course, if you have any questions, please ask.

With The Last British President receiving great five star reviews, I've updated the website with up to date reviews available.

A quick update on how the book is being received and where it's being published.
Some great reviews are now coming in from Amazon and Goodreads, which of course I'm delighted with. You can read the reviews here:
I also participated in a Q&A with Versione Argentina, a local blog based in Buenos Aires, where I was asked some very interesting questions indeed. It's spoiler-free by the way.
Apart from being available on Amazon worldwide as paperback and Kindle versions, I've also published with Draft2Digital, a distributor/aggregator. This means that the eBook and ePub versions are now available at Apple Book Store, Barnes and Noble and many other distributors. D2D provide a Universal Book Link (UBL) which shows all the distributors, saving you the trouble of having to wade through a list of different links.
I'm currently working on two other books which I'll publish on Amazon, but these won't be available for a while.
