We had a car where the maintenance light stayed on, after trying to hide the light with tape, I finally reached up behind the panel cluster and just took the bulb out. If your car is equipped, you might try using a code reader to see if a code has been set, and use the code reader to reset the code. I keep a code reader for my old diesel truck, just for that purpose.
