I can have chocotorta from time to time.
What exactly is a chocotorta? First I've ever heard of it.
Not that I'm in any rush to try it as most chocolate here is bloody awful quality despite the inflated prices. As for putting on weight. Much to my wife's annoyance I'm one of those lucky people. I can eat as much of anything sweet and not put on weight.

I knew it had been a long time, but didn’t remember how long.
Many expats don’t like anything containing DDL, but I love chocotorta.I never used to be a fan of dulce de leche but there's a local producer here who makes lovely stuff.

UK Man , I‘ve meant to ask how long you’ve been in Argentina?
Permanently stayed here 13 years this October.

My type of cake. Any chance of getting the recipe for the apple one?
They seem to love using brightly coloured icing on their overpciced cakes here. So not only do they taste awful they look ruddy awful as well.

UK Man .....very simple..... basically it's beetroot with vinaigrette and sugar.....and some Laurel, pepper and a few other small things.......
First u cook the beetroot around an hour, put it ice cold water with icecubes , important! Then they are sliced and put in glasses with the liquid!!!!
U can keep them years.....just put in a cool dark place.
Remember the complete desinfecting of glasses etc!!!!!
Simple....just like my pickled beetroot.

Btw today I'm gonna make a batch of rotebete, (beetroot)...... impossible to buy here I think.....impossible to live without in Germany and Scandinavian countries!
What has that got in it Jan? I did once make pickled beetroot which turned out okay but never made it again.

Judging by this YouTube video Marroc is very easy to make. However I do get the feeling by the time you buy all the ingredients (which I doubt will save you money) then do all the faffing about you might just as well buy the flippin' things. Plus you won't have any washing up to do.
-
Do they also make an Emergency Giant Size, to get everyone through the quarantine?
Probably a good job they don't as it would likely cost a ruddy fortune. Sweeties, at least the ones I like, do seem to be pretty expensive here for some reason.
-
I confess to having a certain addiction for Marroc, too. But I don't like to take the first bite because I will want 4-5 cubes instead of one.
And they are too tiny.
But delicious.
Yes they are much smaller than I'd like....although probably just as well. I also had a Gofler marroc bar which is bigger. Doesn't have the same finesse but it was still pretty tasty.
-
Certainly will look out for the Aguilla version...their chocolate is usually good.
-
I could imagine you would love marroc..... UK Man ......it's the small cubes u can buy in any kiosco.....it's very similar to what we call nougat......
I've recently adopted a craving for these Bocadito Marroc Jan, an ideal match to go with a cup of coffee. Trouble is, they're not very big...two bites and it's gone!! At 25 pesos each they're not great value.....nothing is here right enough when it comes to sweeties.

In the UK we call them Brazil nuts as well no idea what they call them here. Don't recall ever seeing them here to be honest although they must be. I'm not a great nut eater.
Pecan nuts are expensive in the UK as well. Obviously much cheaper here as they're easy to grow. What is also good and inexpensive here are semi dehydrated fruits. My wife bought some large raisins, peach and pear fruits tonight from a shop around the corner. Again I'm not a great fan of them but she thought they were very good and inexpensive compared to similar supermarket offerings. I reckon that's one reason why so many small specialist shops exist here.

Pecans are absolutely delicious. Sweet, compared to English walnuts. Pecan (pronounced pe-KONN, not pe-KANN or, even worse, PEE-kann) pie is divine, but that pecan pie cobbler recipe you sent looks even better.
Maybe serafina could be persuaded to add one of those to her award-winning King Cake for the Mardi Gras party....Have to agree. Despite not being a great lover of nuts the pecan is rather nice. Our usually go to waste to be honest.
-
We have a large pecan tree out at the countryside place. Had a look yesterday and there doesn't seem to be many nuts on it this year. Bit of a faff shelling them to be honest.

Simple answer is this country missed the boat by at least 40 years and they only have themselves to blame.
Love the country and its people but I still find it ruddy annoying living here!!!
WTF has this to do with having a sweet tooth?
-
Good for you.
I used to be like that but the years living here have taken their toll.
Seriously, what annoys me most is I know this country should be up amongst the most successful countries in the world economy wise yet it's nowhere near. They continue to underperform, which is a shame but there you have it.

Must say the quality of most chocolate products here is shit.

Cheesecake and carrot cake are to my liking as well but not seen any here. There is a new Patagonian chain type ice cream/coffee cafe which opened not long ago which might just have cheesecake. When the missus and I were there we had their Patagonian berry tart was very good. I didn't pay much notice to their other offerings.
Jan? Is marroc the thing that comes in a small cube...kind of hard chocolate mousse like? Think I've had one and it was nice, not spectacular but alright.
