But will there be a general strike on match day?
Which match day?
I am in Italy (which didn't qualify for the World Cup) and the country is pretty sad and dead. I miss Argentina's festive atmosphere. It is like Christmas, just with the wrong colors!
This thread is a bloody disgrace
Every Scotsman , Chilean , Italian and Paraguayan worth their salt knows its 4 years until the next World Cup
It wasn't until I read the BBC article that I realised so many good teams didn't make it, including Italy, Cameroon, Holland, USA, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, Chile and Paraguay.
Anyway, I'll just leave this here:
I like to look at the half full glass. I am in Italy and I have left the TV babysitting my husband for the whole time.
But I will be back days before the final, hoping to see Argentina win a World Cup. It would be one of those ‘I was there’ things you’ll tell your grandchildren !

You make it sound like so much fun that I'm thinking I might need to not only watch the final but also go out and get some grandchildren!
Being an argentinean, I will not became happy if Argentina wins the cup. For me the AFA and all Soccer organizations of my country are a bunch of bandits and thiefs, and they idiotize the whole of the public during those two weeks. After the cup, we shall be the same, with so many problems to resolve.
The worst manifestation of that evilness is to celebrate the famous "Hand of God" of the unbearable Maradona, nothing less against the English. This is not the way I would like to win the English. Only in the proper, gentlemanly way. Other options are a national shame.
Sadly, most of my countrymen still celebrate this tricky way to win with jollity.
For fucks sake Carlos, it's the World Cup. Allow us some entertainment and heart rending palpitations for a month at the very least.
An escape from the crisis here, which is no fault of the people I might add, is just what we all need.
Furthermore, I'm British and hope that Argentina win this cup for the entire country. God knows, we need it.
Here's Ronaldo for Portugal scoring a hat-trick today.
I can understand Carlos's sentiments and up to a pint I agree.
But I also agree with Splinter ...it would be great to celebrate an Argentine win
Tomorrow is a big day . Argentina play and its Mrs GlasgowJohn's birthday.
She says no party - but I have arranged for 8 of her best buddies round for pizza and champagne after the game....
Home made pizza by me..champagne a mix of French , Spanish and local Chandon...

They often say “no party.” I’ve never gotten in trouble for giving one anyway.

My compliments to Mrs. Glasgow John. May the Good Lord give her many years of happiness.
I give thanks to all, British and Americans, for being on the side of Argentina. But I will ask a bit of moderation.
As Winston Churchill said,
"At war, resolution. At defeat, Dignity. At Victory; Magnanimity" and I would add. "low profile".
...or to quote Wellington "Nothing except a battle lost can be half as melancholy as a battle won."
Well, what a shabby performance from Argentina today. Completely lacking in any passion or real team-play as usual. In fact, it was the predictable watching paint dry exercise and pretty much what I expected.
They completely underestimated Iceland who played one hell of as match and we can only hope Messi and the boys pull they're collective fingers out for the next match on Thursday.
Argentines always are in the extreme: one day they think that they are the best, the other day they think they are the worst. That is why I claim for temperance and low profile.

Carlos, you do indeed seem to have escaped the famed Latin Temperament. Are you completely sure you aren't British???

Asking for temperance or low profile in Argentina is asking the impossible Carlos.
