The most memorable national anthems seem to be either militaristic or uplifting. Canada's anthem strikes an uplifting note that I like.

It's a shame it's such a dull and uninspiring tune though. The UK national anthem does absolutely nothing for me. Not even a tiny tingle.
The unofficial US anthem, on the other hand. Irving Berlin wrote it, originally for a WW1 show, then updated it in 1939. In 1940 Kate Smith made what should have been the only recording necessary (others did, but shouldn't have done)
I hate to admit it, but ALL OF THE ABOVE, plus 'America The Beautiful' bring tears to my eyes. As long as I can remember, for emotional reasons. And currently, also out of sadness because of the low level to which we have fallen.
My preferred national anthem honors a country that now disappeared. But the music and choir have a strong sense of dignity.

I love that one too! When I was 12 years old, I discovered a wonderful old music book in the church where I studied organ music. The “Austrian National Anthem,” as this was called, seemed so full of emotion and pride! I would run to the empty church’s choir loft after school and fire up the organ to an absurdly high volume so I could let the sound invade the rafters.
The music is from Joseph Haydn, and is a leitmotif of the "Emperor Quartet" of 1780. dedicated to the Emperor of those times. Then the Germans copied it and added "Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles" (Germany, Germany over all peoples) and is still the German National Anthem-
Instead, the original letter was not so haughty and aggressive. It said:
Gott erhalte, Gott beschutze
Unser Kaiser, Unser Land
Which means: God enhance, God protect, Our Emperor, Our Land.
Due to the multi national character of the Empire, it had several translations in Italian, Czech, Bohemian, Hungarian, Romanian, Polish and Croatian languages
Another hymn, but not a National Anthem is used in the UK and was written by Gustav Holst, basically the theme of "Jupiter, the bringer of Jollity"
Also has been adapted to religious ceremonies and its name is "O God beyond all praising"
Even in the Vatican I heard this hymn. Not yet common in Argentina.
But about UK music, in every wedding ceremony they play "Pomp and Circumstance" March N°1 by Edward Elgar.
