UK Man , it sounds as if she was commenting on more than just your smoking.
My poor Spanish you mean?
To be honest most of the people I meet here who have some grasp of English insist on speaking to me in it. Even Vanessa who serves us coffee in the Axion garage cafe loves it when I arrive so she can use her few words of English on me. I rarely have the need to speak in Spanish.

My husband’s and my facility in Spanish is certainly lacking, especially taking into account all the years we have been back and forth between the US and Argentina.
Our Argentine friends are kind enough to compensate for our insufficiencies by speaking English to us most of the time. They emphasize their desire to practice English, but we recognize their generosity in not saying “This is a Spanish-speaking country you’re a guest in! Get up off your lazy ass and learn to communicate better!”

The wife's always saying that to me. I usually reply by saying ''it's you that brought me here''.

You are the luckiest man alive, that
1) Your wife is willing to all the language work in your marriage,
2) Outside the house, she is your own personal translator for anything more complicated than “buen día,”
3) She is your personal chauffeur,
4) She tells you about KitKat sales, and
5) She doesn’t murder you outright when you make that reply to her!
(While I’m helping you count your blessings, please tell me other areas I’ve left out?)
Be sure to show her this post, and see if she doesn’t agree! 😎

She reminds me of all of that several times a day.

A wife’s job!

Wifey went to the Provincia to withdraw some cash last night. All the machines were empty!!

As a reason given for last week’s fall in the blue dollar rates, I read a reference to “pesos badly needed for end of month govt payments,” but there was no further explanation.
Others on this forum are much more plugged in to the govt finance scene than I am. Explanations?

We did ATM hopping on Saturday’s night and we were successful only on our 5th attempt.
One ATM in plaza Italia had 5 homeless people sleeping in it because of the rain and smell was unbearable. The other 4 were empty. Our technique is now going to Recoleta - the more affluent the neighborhood, the better the chance to find money in the machine and no people sleeping in there.

The missus blames the early 1pm closing time now in force, the lack of high denomination notes as the two main reasons. Se had to go to the Comafi where she'll be charged for the transaction.

-
I had a little chuckle to myself at the suggestion of "high denomination notes".
Seriously though, that's grim. I assume all the ATMs will be reloaded this morning and that will mean large queues. -
-
The business to be in right now is collecting cash from retail businesses and delivering cash to ATMs at banks
The 2000 peso note only works in a very, very small percentage of ATMs - so the highest denomination is the 1000 note , ie one Dollar more or less
Depending how fast the Dollarization project goes , I can see 5,000 and 10,000 notes coming very quickly

Something will have to be done quickly as it's a farce. A 1000 peso note gets you SFA nowadays so you need at least a hundred of them just to go for a drink and a bite to eat.

UK Man , where are you going for a drink and a bite to eat, Don Julio?
He clearly likes looking after the wife in the manner which she has become accustomed to....

It's the other way around actually.

I use my foreign Visa and Mastercard CC almost everywhere now. At least the past month most days the rate has been better than the WU, and always more convenient. If the place charges extra for credit card, I use my argentina debit card or I transfer to their CBU Alias to get rid of my bank pesos. I resist holding and giving cash pesos. Only the blue is a better rate, and then the hassle of carrying cash pesos.

She only keeps pesos in the bank when she has to. Things her pension which is paid into her account.

That is a good policy. Plus not worth the bother retrieving those pension pesos from the ATM, since everyone takes CBU Alias transfers, debit, or credit.
