Apparently the major credit card companies are doing away with signatures in the USA, which are pretty useless anyway. The big question is: will this ever catch on in Argentina?

In many supermarkets you have to sign your name, then write it clearly, add your ID number and in some cases even write down your phone number, an exercise that I find mind numbing.

For a country so obsessed with fraud and corruption, I'm surprised that anti fraud technology isn't used more widely. I once wrote Mickey Mouse on a Coto credit card bill and no one even looked at it.

When we order takeaway food, my wife usually telephones to get it on a credit card for one or several of the discounts offered. When the delivery guy shows up, the routine is that I go down to the entrance with the credit card. He has the factura, puts it on top of the card, runs the flat of a pen over the embossed numbers to sort of get a print on the paper. Then I sign it with wife’s DNI (they never ask for the actual document) and ... then we eat.

The signature, as Splinter notes, is the Big Deal, even though it's mine and has no connection whatsoever with the documents.

    Argentina.

Yeah, but you can write bogus details and nobody notices.

I even do it when I go to exchange places. They cannot even copy correctly the details from my DNI, and they won't bother checking if the DNI, the aclaración or the signature match the document. TWOT (total waste of time)

Because of the obvious homonym, I breathed a sigh of relief when I read your translation, serafina .

I just made it up, I didn't know it was taken.

Maybe you meant it with an 'a' instead of an 'o'?

One of the few things I’ve learned really well in life is that I should never, in any way, intrude in women’s whimsies. Leaving bloodied is the most likely outcome.

Chip and pin has been in the UK for like 10+ years, they have recently in five or two years ago introduced contactless payments, seems like the Americas is lagging behind Europe

But aren't those signature-less only for smaller amount, less than 20 USD?

Changed the title of the thread from “Soon you won't have to sign your credit card receipt - in America.” to “Credit cards”.

Didn't know where to put this...

My wife lost her credit card about a month ago so she had it cancelled and asked for a new one. It still hasn't arrived even though they've taken $7000 from her already. She can use it online but that's not the point.

I said to kick up a stink like I would have done, but you know what banks are like here.

They mailed it to your house, and it has not arrived, or it is/was planned to be waiting for her to pick up at the bank? If the virtual is active that should mean the bank app or the Modo app be configured to pay onsite with the phone. That is what I did while waiting for the debit card to arrive.

She has yet to find an option to track it, so remains in the dark. Neither has she been advised that it was mailed or of an attempt to deliver it.

My missus had a similar problem recently with one of her cards. Pretty sure it had something to do with the production side of it. She's still in bed so will ask her later.
