Very interesting. My laptop is long overdue for replacement, so I'm doing a lot of thinking about this right now.

Great article - especially as it reflects my own views (thereby qualifying for greatness).
Some years ago I produced and broadcast a weekly, hour-long radio program. I produced it at home, pre-recording the music and much of the commentary using an audio processing program called Goldwave on my Windows XP desktop. Goldwave still costs about $US 50 and is a fabulous program. The version I bought was 32-bit, and has been updated through the years to conform to successive Windows versions, but none of its iterations have ever become obsolete. The current product is a 64-bit app that’s fast as lightning with quite a few more features than the original. It’s not available for Macs.
This story can be repeated for several of the software products I’ve used over the years. I do admire the Mac’s quality and ease of use. I still prefer the enormously greater choices available with the Windows platform, which was the article’s point. I hope the rumors aren’t true that Apple may leave the computer market, but with their minuscule share, and printing tons of money with their phones and pads, I’m sure some of the Apple execs are asking, “Why are we still doing this?”

That's a fair point Ed and I had no idea about those rumours.
And Rice, get a Windows laptop whatever you do. I've already posted here about my experiences fixing Macs, which is always a long and torturous journey to 'make it up as you go along' territory.
At least with a Winbox you're in familiar territory.

I can attest to the clarity of these terrific programs!

Fair point. I would hate to be featured in a DCT "Day in the life of a Computer Technician" column.

Mac vs. PC has been with us since the mid-80’s and the debate has entertained millions over the ensuing thirty years (thirty years!).
Today, there’s less reason for debates than in the past. Apple was always the winner in ease-of-use because they created a closed, controlled world where aliens that might gum up the works weren’t allowed in the room. All were welcome in the Windows world, with the predictable general chaos of square pegs and round holes. Seldom a week went by when I didn’t have to track down some new incompatibility in hardware, drivers, or any one of a multitude of annoyances.
Let it be known that with the current Windows 10, those happenings are almost Apple-rare. Between Microsoft and third-party vendors both getting better at making things “just work,” we are now in a world where buying a Windows PC does not condemn the user to the constant frustrations of the past.
Would very much like to hear Splinter’s comments - he’s the pro.

Windows 10 has made life easier still. I've installed it on countless PCs, some of which have been pretty ancient by today's standards and on most occasions even the drivers are installed automatically, with device manager showing a complete system, with no yellow question marks.
Not so true with laptops but even then, tracking down the correct driver through Dell, HP or Lenovo etc isn't very hard and if you're up against it Slim Drivers or Driverguide are very useful resources.
But let's face it, if you're a hobbyist you're going Windows. Who ever heard of anyone building a Mac? Even for fun.

Net Neutrality & You (The Fight’s Not Over)
This is well worth reading and is hair raising when you realise what's going on.
-
-
“Trump’s FCC chair, Ajit Pai said, “Net Neutrality is hurting poor people.” His reasoning goes like this: If we ban Net Neutrality, ISPs will have more money to bring the internet to isolated areas in the US where poor people live.“
This sounds remarkably like CFK’s rationale for any of a number of scams she perpetrated on the people here.
The writer naively thinks because 90% of Democrats and 84% of Republicans favor net neutrality, that their representatives will do as their constituents wish. Keep in mind that the Republicans control Congress and Trump controls the Republican Party. Trump sees profits for his future media empire, as suggested in the examples given in the article.

The continuing saga of Windows 10 build 1809
More delays caused by bugs, the current bug is the zero day bug, an API that can be hacked into by malicious software developers, NSA for one, and the archiving zip file bug

Wait — end of support for Windows 10 (home and pro) is already anticipated for 17 months from now, or did I misunderstand?

Only for the current build, not for Windows 10 completely after the update is eventually installed

Good. Thanks!

At least that I think it meant, hopefully

Anyone using W10 had better have a system image stored on an external drive. When I ask the one's I do PC work for their response is "what is that".
In my humble opinion MS should at least try the same update approach that W8.1 has. Point in case, the PC I am using now has W8.1 installed, rolled back from W10, that works flawlessly.
The twice a year idiotic feature updates is just a waste of my time, putting crap on my PC that I will never use. Please MS, just release a service pack and let me install it, if I want.
Now do not take this as a anti W10 user. W10 is and will be the OS of choice, if one wants to run Windows but until MS gets their update policy fixed, then every user should take the steps to protect their PC and data from updates that may go wrong.
