It's obviously a selling tactic all the supermarket chains regularly use...
I'd say 'sadistic', but that's just my opinion!

I wouldn't say we're being screwed by the supermarkets, but keeping an eye on bargains is all part of the fun. In Dia there's 20% discount every Tuesday if you're in the club, so I'll have another mooch around later.

But remember their weekly discounts run from Wednesday until Monday, so are not included in the 20%.
They only include the 25/30 products that are on the monthly promo.

That's handy to know. We used to shop in Dia quite a lot even weekly but now only pop in now and again. I think the lack of choice and quality was the main reason the missus stopped going. Plus they don't seem to reduce the price of the St Wendeler stout as often as they used to.
Went to Dia this morning and bought 20 KitKats that were on a 2 for 2400 offer. Which is what should be the normal price.
Why are they all closed today?
"Ah! si, porque es el dia del empleado de comercio."
It's always dia de somethingorother!

Indeed. If it's not the day of the bank worker, teacher, shop worker it's the day of someone in another vocation. Must ask the missus when it's the day off for the lazy sod!!

Gee, I hate that we’re missing this one.
We popped into the town centre yesterday evening. Despite the banks being open during normal working hours the BBVA cash machines had run out of money so we had to go to Nacion which thankfully had some. I was surprised to see how many shops were actually closed including the supermarkets. Here the supermarkets are usually open using Sunday opening hours when it's a holiday.
QuoteThe reduction of the foreign exchange gap between the official dollar exchange rate and financial exchange rates, such as ‘CCL,’ made it cheaper in 2025 for multinationals to convert their “trapped” pesos into dollars and finally get out.
QuoteThe most talked about case is French supermarket giant Carrefour, which last month reached a decisive stage. By the end of the year, operations might close. Business leaders Alfredo Coto and Francisco de Narváez are among the interested parties.
Coto is obviously Coto, Narváez is ChangoMas/Tia who also bought out Walmart stores in recent years.
QuoteMakro, the Dutch wholesaler, left last January. That decision was part of a strategic regional withdrawal. Chilean group Cencosud – owner of the Jumbo, Disco and Vea supermarkets– purchased 100 percent of its operations
Jumbo's Censosud group now owns Makro too
Could be wrong but if my understanding is right I'm not suprised foreign companies are leaving. I get the impression most were 'paid' to attract them here in the first place and now that the K gravy train is no longer running they are getting out as quickly as possible. Can't say I blame them.
The strange thing about Carrfeour is that only 12 months ago , they announced a big expansion programme in Argentina.
In fact they even opened in Chivilcoy to be close to UK Man
Have things got dramaticaly worse since they announced their expansion plans?
Why do Cencosud want to buy more points of sale in Argentina?
Lots of unanswered questions....
I also hear that Narvaez is about to offload his Uruguayan supermarket chain... to get ready cash to buy part of Carrefour , perhaps?

Carrefour is French owned and has been here for 40+ years, so it's nothing to do with K bribes. In fact it's South America strategic decision since the appointment of a new CEO.

I've noticed a distinct improvement in customer service at some Carrefour branches and big wigs milling around with iPads looking important, maybe sizing up the branches.
The posted article does a good job of explaining the reasons
