Last week, we were heading out for a doctor appointment and on our way out, we found a delivery guy buzzing apartment #3 for a ML delivery. No one was in, and my husband offered to take it in and give it to our neighbor once they were home. The delivery guy left a note in ML noting the item was left with a neighbor, and stated our apartment number.
My husband then went back upstairs, left the box on the countertop, and we finally left for our doctor appointment. We were back 90' later and there was a paper note slipped under our door from the girl in apt. 3, with her phone number to arrange for the collection.
As soon as we got back, my husband picked the box and went downstairs. The girl was home and she was very thankful for keeping her delivery safe.
30' later, she proceeded to file a claim with ML saying she had never received the parcel.
Two days after the fact, the delivery guy came back and buzzed our apartment and told about the missing parcel claim to my husband. He explained that he wasn't going to get paid for the delivery and, worst, he could lose his delivery job. My husband swore he had handed the parcel to our neighbor. The delivery guy believed him and left. My husband then buzzed apartment #3 to ask for explanation, but no one was home.
I am relieved the delivery guy didn't ask for my husband's DNI upon delivery, otherwise he could be charged with stealing. Perhaps, the delivery guy is now charged with stealing. The only one benefitting is the girl, who got her yogurt maker for free, at the expense of the seller and the delivery guy. She must be very proud of her smartness. Two strangers wanted to do her a favor and she didn't miss the chance to put it in that place where the sun never shines to two other people.
Unfortunately, we had already thrown away her paper note with her phone number, although I don't think it'd have changed much - she would simply block my husband's number.
The delivery guy showed my husband that she filed the missing parcel claim at 6.33 PM, and we were home before 6 PM. We had made a purchase in a store at 5.32 PM (as shown by the card receipt I still had) and this store is a 18' drive from our place. We definitely received her product well before 6.33 PM.
