Today I was involved for the first time in a road accident. I was just a passenger on the bus, and only hit my knees against the board in front of me. Other passengers were not so lucky - a couple of elder women hit their head and nose against the metal bars in front of them and were bleeding from their nose and on their forehead. The glasses of one of these ladies flew across bus, to the back seats. Ambulances were called, but I left the scene before anything else could happen as I was in shock. I hailed a cab and went straight home.

I am unable to tell what happened exactly, as I was staring at my smartphone when we heard a boom and hit whatever surface we had before us. We were all sitting, luckily, and there were just 10 passengers on the bus. I am not sure if the driver did a sudden stop to avoid colliding with the car in front of us, or if he braked suddenly and as a result the car behind the bus hit us. We heard a boom so I think something hit us or we hit something, but the car in front of us didn't seem to notice, so I am not sure. We were in shock after the hit, another bus coming from the opposite direction stopped to ask our driver if he was okay. The bus driver was unscathed and came to the back to check on the passengers. Since we were in the middle of Avenida Las Heras, he drove past the crossing to stop the bus at the nearest sidewalk. As soon as the doors opened, I was out of there as fast as I could.

Now I just have sore knees, but no hematoma. I am okay but not 100% okay, as I am a bit shaken by the whole experience. The elder women bleeding were visibly shaken and shaking. Poor ladies! I hope they are fine. One tend to think they are "safe" once seated on the bus, but today proved it is a wrong assumption.

This isn't the first time I read about bus accidents because the drivers are simply maniacs who couldn't give a damn about anyone else on the road. They often shoot red lights at full speed and never look when pulling out. I hope you're fine Serafina, but your post came as no surprise.

UK Man , I was sore last night but I am 100% fine today - thank you! I was a little worried because I have seen in movies that trauma doesn't always show up immediately. I am sure I didn't it anything beside my knees, though.

Splinter , I have been on buses dashing through traffic like we were in a GT car race, that's true!! In fact, I remember holding tight onto a bar and almost falling after a sudden brake while going to classes in the past, which is why I'd rather sit.

This time, I don't recall the driver driving fast. In fact, I think we were approaching a light. I couldn't see well as I was sitting in the middle of the bus and staring at my smartphone.

After the hit, I saw a car in front of us, and I don't think the bus has touched it because it was standing still, but I did hear a loud noise - I just don't know where the impact/hit happened. Perhaps the car in front of us stopped because they wanted to turn left and realized it wasn't allowed (in that point, Av. Las Heras is 3 lanes in each direction), or perhaps they wanted to run a yellow light and changed their mind. Or the car behind us wasn't leaving enough room and run into the bus. Who knows!

I am glad this is over and I was unscathed.

I'm glad too, serafina . Like you, I'd always felt safe once seated on a bus, but that assumption is apparently unfounded in wild traffic cities like BsAs.

I'm in awe of you for having the courage to drive around the city in your car, too!

Thank you for the support!
