British Passport Renewal – Payment Declined from Argentina

    Hi Splinter,

    I found your posts about renewing your British passport from Argentina, and I was hoping you might be able to help me with something.

    I am currently trying to renew a British passport from Argentina, but I am having a problem with the online payment. The payment is repeatedly declined with the message “Payment declined”, even though I have tried several different cards and the banks have confirmed that the cards are enabled for international online payments.

    I have also seen other people mentioning that they had similar problems when applying from outside the UK, sometimes apparently related to the location/IP address.

    Since you recently went through the renewal process from Argentina yourself, do you remember whether you had any problem making the payment? And if so, how did you manage to complete it?

    Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    I used a UK debit card the last time and the time before that, an Argentine Mastercard, but that was a few years back. What kind of card are you using?

    Thanks for your reply. I used two different Visa debit/credit cards issued by Argentine banks, and I also tried with a Mastercard, but unfortunately the payment was declined in all cases.

    I was wondering if you know whether Argentine-issued cards are currently accepted for the UK passport application payment, or if there is any other payment method I could try.

    Do you remember if your wife used a particular browser when she made the payment? And did she complete the application and payment from a computer or from her mobile phone?

    Perhaps you should contact the card issuer? I know that's easier said than done with all this automation, but that seems to be the only option for you.

    Laptop, no idea which browser I'm afraid.
