In all the years of living here, water leaks and floods have always been the main problem for us, through the roof or elsewhere. Same for the MIL's ground floor flat, but last night was something else. She called at 6pm to say there was water all over the place, so we dashed over to find it was coming up the bathroom drain hole, that little grate you find in all bathrooms. Eventually it stopped coming up and allowed us to rake water into it for a couple of hours. We were now a team of five and managed to dry it out as best we could. The flat has only just been redecorated and has new wooden parquet floors. Clearly the MIL couldn't sleep there last night so SIL took her to her house, very distraught.
This morning the problem has returned but much worse and plumbers and AYSA (water co) involved because there is clearly a blockage, so I'll probably go back to help out.
