Intersting article in the local rag regarding dodgy car fires in the area. Is the Argie equivalent of the MOT not necessary when taking out car insurance here? I was always under the impression it was but the article seems to suggest it isn't. That's surely asking for trouble!!

I have never been asked for a VTV/MOT when insuring vehicles here. I don't even know if it invalidates your insurance if you don't have a current one either, such as in the UK.

I was sure the missus said you have to show proof of one when insuring a car but obviously not. Seems crazy the insurance companies don't insist on you having one. Then again maybe it suits them not to as they can then refuse to pay out.

I only hear about needing the Technical Review (RTO) system, also known as Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV) if a police asks during their seatbelt/insurance/registration stop. The laws by decree were changed this year. Now many workshops can do this inspection to give a sticker, instead of the limited few of the past. And new vehicles do not need until their 5th year.
