I would hope that Milei will respect the wishes of the actual population of the islands.

And for those Argies who claim that the population has been implanted I have to ask when did any Argentines live there , for longer than a week, and where there ever any Argentines born there.

The answer is No and No.

I don't get the Argentines' obsession with the islands, to be fair. The war itself was as short-lived as a spring fling during teenage years, they miserably lost, there is nothing culturally argentinian in there.

I could understand it if they were honest and say it was about natural resources/underwater/water space. Furthermore, it doesn't seem Argentina has the political strength/stance to claim anything from a world superpower like the UK.

In my view, this is just an internal marketing/political turn by every president in charge. They look for the people's support by reliving the issue now and then. I don't think they actually think they can get the islands back.

You’re right, serafina . But if the people some day wake up and say, “Wait! Exactly what have you done towards reclaiming the Malvinas?” — then he looks worse than if he’d kept his mouth shut.

The UK is no longer a world superpower, far from it. If Argentina decided to retake the islands, the UK armed forces are so badly reduced that it would be a non-starter. But that's not going to happen and for me, this is simply a storm in a tea cup. But Milei needs to keep his gob shut.
