I was due to fly to Iguazu for a corporate event at 09.00 this morning from Ezeiza.
7.00 am checkin meant that I had to leave home at 05.15 am
When it's that early, I never rest properly, and I woke up at 01.00 to drink some water. I noticed there was a mail from Flybondi, advising of the cancellation.
Of course, at that time , it was too late to make alternative plans
I was able to cancel my remise here and my remise in Iguazu.
I have made a claim for a refund of my tickets, and Flybondi promise to process it in 30 days. However, comments on Facebook and other social media sites make this highly doubtful.
Flybondi has had a chequered history. It started well, but then it got into financial problems.
They recovered and started to grow – they were actually growing so fast that they had to lease planes from some European airlines
This year, they brought in six planes from different European companies during the southern hemisphere summer, increasing their fleet to 23 planes
Pretty good , no?
What many of us didn’t know is that they weren’t paying the leasing fees to the European companies, and these planes were grounded earlier this week – they also have a number of planes in maintenance .
Right now, only seven of their total planes are operational. Today, more than 40 flights have been cancelled.
I booked with them as their prices were more than half as cheap as Aerolineas, and Jetsmart was full.
Lessons have been learnt – what is cheap will come back and bite you on the bum.
