    Hello everybody,

Well, after 9 months of treatment and 6 of recovery, the doctors have given me the all clear to come once again to stay with my family and friends in Misiones.

Leaving France on the 6th of March and returning on the 28th April.

As this will probably be my last solo trip to Argentina, I want to make the best of it.

Two goals are to add Brazil and Uruguay to my passport stamps ...

Brazil I will "do" in March with my family, either with a longer visit to the Iguazu falls, or shorter, 1 hour from Leandro N Alem, to Puerto Sánchez Panambi, with an overnight stay in Panabi...

So, to the end of my stay.....

I would like to fly in to BA approx 25th of April, stay at a hotel between the Jorg Newbery airport and Puerto Madero, returning to France on the 28th from Ezeiza.....

So that I can take an organized day trip to Montevideo...8)

Would anybody here wish to join me?? Either on the tour, or at the hotel for a meal and drink, or elsewhere.

While I am still independent, I would like to be accompanied on this day trip, taking it easy.

While I will be on-line in Misiones, I would like to sketch in the details for Montevideo.

    What do you think??.............

    Cordialement...

That sounds like a fine idea, Sarran1955 ! Were we not going to be a continent away at that time, we would enjoy joining you. I hope you do it, and fill your passport with new stamps!

While I will be on-line in Misiones, I would like to sketch in the details for Montevideo.

Colonia del Sacramento is a very quiet, preserved town that is worth a visit and can be reached by ferry, just like Montevideo.

If you ask me, Montevideo is a failed Buenos Aires, but I understand your curiosity to see what is there on the other side of the Rio de la Plata.

There are two companies that sail from Buenos Aires to Uruguay, and they also sells packages:

Colonia Express | ¡Viajá a Uruguay! Mejores paquetes turísticos
La mejor forma de cruzar | #ColoniaExpress
    www.coloniaexpress.com

Buquebus | ¡Viajá a Uruguay en los mejores Barcos! Pasajes a Colonia, Montevideo y Punta del Este.

In my time, we used another company (Cacciola) which I understand is no longer sailing to Uruguay. We took the ferry in Tigre, then arrived in Colonia. You could also buy a ticket to Montevideo from Tigre, but it is a two leg journey (and frankly, too a long one): first you sail to Colonia, pass customs and immigrations and then you board a bus that goes to montevideo. Overall, I think it was 6-7 hours.

Sailing from the port of Buenos Aires, instead, allows you to take the catamaran which is faster (and more expensive), besides the ferry.

Bs As to Colonia And then on by bus to MVD is one hour 5 mins /one hour 10 mins by boat then 10 minutes to transfer to the bus and about 2hrs 30 minutes by road to MVD - Both Buquebus and Colonia Express operate services

Bs As - to MVD direct by ferry is 2hrs 15mins / 2hrs 30 mins - only Buquebus operates at the moment . There is a rumour that Colonia Express will start tghis year.

Buquebus also operates a TIgre - Carmelo service - its an old and slow ferry - but it doesnt go on anywhere else.

I stand corrected. This was the old Cacciola Route that offered the combo by bus to MVD (I wrote Colonia+MVD by mistake, it was Carmelo+MVD).

In Carmelo there is nothing worth visiting.

Cacciola stopped their service just before the pandemic , I think.

the service must have taken for ages. Its got to be close 4 hours to MVD from there

Went to Montevideo yonks ago for a couple of days. We flew there and back with Pluna who I see stopped flying in 2012. I liked the city as I found it more relaxing than BA.

Odd, how different people react to the same place. When we want to Montevideo in maybe 2008 or 2010, the streets were filled with paper and other trash, and there seemed to be very little going on. All we could think was “We are wasting days we could be enjoying in Buenos Aires!”

    Hi everybody

I have arrived safe and sound in Misiones.

A long,13hr flight, but with Lufthansa very comfortable.

I felt slightly fraudulent having asked for wheelchair assistance, but it is too far for me to walk.

At the Ezeiza end, I was whisked through inmigracion and customs in about 15 minutes, avoiding all the queues..^^

So here I am in air-conditioned luxury, surrounded by small dogs and the grand children, who have grown by a head since 2024.

So, ice cold Quilmes in the garden looking at the avocado trees... not too shabby!!

Can't say I remember the streets being full of rubbish. Maybe there was a strike going on when you were there?

Montevideo has changed for the better in the last ten years or so.

Not as noisy as Bs As - much easier to move about and the traffic is bearable

Good bars and decent restaurants abound.

Honestly, it sounds like you shouldn extend your invitation!
    Enjoy your time in Misiones!
We currently have a guest from Miami, which sounds ‘round the corner vs. Europe.

9 hrs vs 23 is a no brainer!

I enjoyed Montevideo a few times. Though Not in the past 8 or 9 years. Nice to walk all around the city, and the long stretch along the water

No strike going on; the trash everywhere was from paper leaflets that countless businesses paid people to had out on the streets. Reading the post by GlasgowJohn , it sounds as if Uruguay may have become more environmentally conscious in the ensuing years. That would be a real improvement!
