I just made my first international purchase with Mercadolibre and I'm expecting it to arrive in about a week. I read reviews about the service and I didn't see any complaints, so here's hoping.

Also, there were no silly forms to fill out because they already have my CUIT number. You can only do five of these per year, have an ARCA/AFIP key level 2 or above (whatever that is?) and purchase over US$400 attract local taxes.

Oddly enough, the smartwatch, a Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) was cheaper than Amazon and any UK site by a considerable amount and the reviews for both the product and service were excellent, as well as being door to door of course. A luxury for us, but quite normal everywhere else

Has anyone else tried this service?

I have been really tempted to place an order on TEMU, but I think there is still some red tape to work out like the AFIP key level 2. I did it with my foreigner DNI, I had to go to the AFIP office in Plaza de Mayo when I was still living in San Isidro. I think it was because I had the bad idea to have a credit card mailed directly by my bank abroad to Argentina and they were requiring it from DHL for the custom duties payment or something similar (it’s been a few years).
Then I naturalized and got a new DNI. According to the court clerk where I naturalized, the systems (plural: AFIP, Anses and ReNaPer) were supposed to link my old ID number with the new one. It never happened, or it happened in a patchy fashion, and thus I wasn’t able to create a level 2 key with my new DNI number. I had contacted support during the pandemics explaining the issue and it was fixed for a week. A few months later I got another error and I gave up.
I believe during the pandemic I was trying again to use it for some identity verification when you had to use MiArgentina app to get a permit to go out for special business. In the end, I found a workaround for that specific time and never bothered again.
I’ll let the lion sleep and save the shopping for when I visit home.
It baffles me why purchasing stuff should be tracked so heavily. I am not planning on buying expensive stuff, just cat scratchers and toys, so it isn’t worth the risk

for Amazon purchases, it seems the shipping is assigned randomly to 2-3 couriers with different level of customer service/experience, based on what I have read on Reddit. Sounds like looking for troubles, and I got enough on my own.
But I’ll follow anxiously your posts, Splinter !

Yes, last month, we made our first purchase of one of those mercadolibre items marked as “international compra”. It was easy and arrived in less than two weeks. They brought directly to our home, after tracking a short stop at a centralized ML location.

So far so good and pretty amazing since I only ordered it exactly seven days ago!

My smartwatch arrived at my door at 1515hs yesterday, exactly a week after ordering it on Mercadolibre. A quite remarkable service of which I was initially very sceptical.

I was delighted, so top marks to ML!

Splinter did you have to log in in ARCA your purchase or did ML did everything based on your details on file with them?

I am tempted to give it a try but I am not sure if I have a clave fiscal nivel 2 associated with my new DNI (for the reasons described above)

No, I didn't have to log in to anywhere else at all. ML handled everything, including my fiscal key status - had to ask my wife what all that meant, but I still don't get it. Apparently I'm level three.

Your account really tempted me, Splinter !

Apparently, it is now possible to get a clave fiscal through your banking app and I just got mine (level 2) for my new DNI. I guess now I just thave to dedicate the afternoon to browse on ML and Amazon!

Have fun because I saved over US$100 through ML.

My missus got an email from ML the other day telling her that they were sorry to hear she hadn't received her last order of rat poison. It went on to say she would be refunded fully.

Strange thing is she received the rat poison as expected so reckoned it must have been a mistake. She looked at her online bank account today and saw there was a 60000 refund from ML showing in her account. She's no idea how it happened. :scratchead:

This would make a good starting point for a crime novel where the husband unexpectedly dies :D

Was the experience any different than buying on Amazon.com like your wife did a while ago?

I am just thinking it may be cheaper or perhaps I’d simply avoid converting USD to ARS for something that is priced in USD anyway.

Thank you for the support!
