Reading about the affordability of India, Thailand, Mexico and Colombia, made me curious about daily life and safety in Colombia. Have any forum members traveled there during the past 10 years, during which time the country's image has improved as the stranglehold of the drug cartels has been loosened?

We are not contemplating a move, nor could any other country replace Argentina in our affections. But if kidnappings and bodily harm are no longer looming factors, I'd be curious about visiting Medellín and other beautiful places in the country.

We visited Bogota last May (2017) and liked it a lot. Felt as safe as most anywhere. We have also heard that the other major cities are equally safe. Don't know about the countryside as we didn't travel in Colonia. I hear the drug cartels are mostly gone and there is peace between the gov't and the rebels.

However, the prices seemed about equal with AR, maybe slightly cheaper. No scientific study, just eating out, buying souvenirs, etc.

What specifically did you like there? We had an Irish friend who went there every year, and loved it.
