I've been watching some Argentine musicians on YouTube for some time. Some recommended to me and others reach me via the powers of the algorithm.

My appreciation and knowledge of Argentina's music scene runs nether wide nor deep.

I like a few songs by Divididos, such as Que Ves?, Sisters and Guanuqeando.

And a couple by Leon Gieco, such as La Memoria and Solo Lo Pido a Dios.

Does anyone have any suggestions for further listening?

I like Jaime Torres on the charango, Las Palmeras, and Gladys La Bomba Tucumana, not forgetting Tini.

I don't think I've come across any of those artists so that's quite a bit for me look up. That's great!

Of course there is Andrés Calamaro with a long list of Argentina rock albums. Rock Nacional argentina public radio gets repetitive , but you will hear what everyone knows. Either on their website or international TuneIn.com https://www.radionacional.com.ar/programacion-nacional-rock-fm93-7/

For modern rock but still dated, I like El mato a un policía motorizado. If you let the algorithm play their "radio" with this as input you get rock nacional through the decades, old and new.

Old Folclore José Larralde might be the most famous of that genre

I think Argentina excels across a range of musical genres from everything I hear.

And of course the audiences at the likes of the Monumental showcase how great Argentine audiences are when a northern hemisphere musical artist is in town.

But that’s an entirely separate point to what I asked about.

I never took an interest into Argentinian music and I can't name a song. The only one I know some lyrics of is the national anthem.

As I have zero interest in tango, I am also ignorant in that regard. My husband said he listened to Ratones Paranoicos when he was younger, and I think he even sang some of their songs to me. Unfortunately, they left my brain the minute they were over. :th_giggle01:

However, I have noticed that in Argentinian movies, the soundtrack always feature national artists, only. In part is also because they have to pay copyrights to use songs in movie, and probably they can afford only the local ones.

I remember a fun series (Porno y Helado, available on Amazon Prime) where a bit was about a Rolling Stones cult. The part where they go into the cult cave was with zero audio and a caption said that they had no money to buy the right to feature the song "Satisfaction" in the movie. Perhaps it was just to make a fun stunt, or perhaps it was true.

When I lived here as a teen in the 70s I liked Charlie Garcia and others, but don't care for them very much nowadays.

But I do like Los Palmeras...
