Yes that was confusing for many people this morning. A surprise holiday "bonus". Alas the newspaper confirmed the mistake, which will be reversed soon. Those bank workers now must get paid overtime rate to work on the holiday to reverse their own error.

I think they'll just wait until Jan 2. There is no emergency ever in this country to justify taking time off the holidays!
