4 years on from this thread and I still feel exactly the same way.

It's a very hot and humid day and the missus mentioned putting up the Christmas tree. My lack of enthusiasm for it was soon shared by her after she remembered it was packed away somewhere in the back of the room that's full of junk. So she's just going to set out the model manger and figures on the lobby table instead. Merry Christmas from a grumpy old sod!!

I don't hate it, but I do miss the cold, frosty nights, twinkling stars and ice and trampling through snow. Christmas in this heat takes some getting used to, but fortunately this year we're doing it in Adri's mother's house, which at least is a change of scenery from previous years and a first because she's 89 and wanted it this way.

I don't hate it either it's the Xmas weather I hate here. Thankfully since Cristina's mum passed away we can do what we want.

UK Man , it’s great that the two of you agree on all things regarding holidays and living in general!

I have to agree that when you’re in a tropical or sub-tropical climate, it’s harder to have the feeling that it’s actually Christmas time. This is our first time in the cold, frozen north in decades. So we have the Christmas spirit, but we’re snowed in and freezing! Still, the snow is beautiful.

What a beautiful picture, Rice ! It is out of a Christmas postcard!

I agree with UK Man that the hot and wet weather doesn't reminisce me of Christmas the least. That said, I far more enjoy the holidays here. The fact that you celebrate outdoor means you can space from the crowd when you need to take a break, and go for a walk to burn out those extra calories.

Also, my husband's extended family is much larger than mine, so it is easier to make casual conversation and avoid those serious topic that inevitably lead to bitchy comments in my mom's family.

Now that's more like it. It does look rather too remote though. Are you far from the supermarket?

This will be my 17th Christmas in Argentina.

Mrs GJs family is full of cousins , aunts and uncles and a bunch of freinds who are part of the family. The end of year parties can have anything between 40-50 people there , so it can quite hectic. Since we moved out to Escobar seven years ago , we only do one of the parties and its almost always the Chrstmas Eve special.

This year we will again do Christmas Eve in the capital and Hogmanay closer to home , actually only one km away from our house.

I actually much prefer to celebrate in the heat of the southern hemisphere.

Before living in Argentina , I spent quite a few Christmases in the South of Spain - not as hot as here but a pleasant 21/22c was fairly common.

In the last 17 years we have managed one Christmas in Scxotland . it was decent and good to be with the family , but I actually prefer here. GJ Junior was most upset that it didnt snow when we were in Glasgow.

I don't mind the odd Hogmanay party when we have run out of excuses to avoid going. The older we get we slip away not long after the bells though.

Yes. But only 20 m from the beach, so it’s easy to choose nature over civilization, even in winter.

Thanks to a summer storm and tornado last year, we probably have enough logs to last into the 22nd century!

You can use the extra logs for an asado... or a hundred!

Do you shower with your mouth open? Your chronic grumpiness may be because of the arsenic :th_giggle01:

We have a unholy Christmas tree which is the proper cat-size. At least according to our perma-foster.

Had a lovely sirloin steak and chips dinner followed by ice cream and fresh fruit salad last night. Unlike the locals we were in bed before midnight watching telly so no lie-in needed for me this morning. Touch fresher today which is welcome as we'll be going to the quinta this afternoon where I might even cut some grass. Church service at 8pm tonight which is a bit of a pain especially as I promised the missus I'll go in with her instead of waiting outside in the car and having a fag.

    Got home at 03.30@m.

Woke up at 06.45 but was able to get another doze until 07.55

No problem on the roads . 55 minutes down which is normal. One hour 20 on the way back , not too bad and certainly better than last year

The promised rainstorms did not materialize.

    Feeling good , just tired.

I fell asleep at 23 on the couch of my BIL like Snowhite: dress and arm on my eyes. Got woken up by the fireworks at midnight, I missed all the desserts! 😭

we left at 1:30 and the panamericana was a long line of cars. We slipped into the heavy weight vehicles lanes that run parallel to the main lanes and cut the traffic. Lugone was crowded but manageable. I was in bed by 2 and got woken up at 9 am by the kitty biting into my feet.

Round 2 starts at 3 pm, so I’ll get some work done and read a book. No rain forecast, so it will be pool day at my BIL’s. Food is already there from last night.

We had a small family do with just the eight of us and got home at about 3 am, quick night cap and turned in at 4. We were woken at 8 am by two cats walking on us, but I don't know how they opened the garage door. They could well have been planning such a heist for some time!

Very quiet today, so I'll go for a long bike ride to shake off the cobwebs.

The two youngsters had parties to go to afterwards and the lad, my nephew, disappeared at around 2 am to CABA and accidentally took the family car keys with him. Major drama then ensued with his parents needing an Uber because he went dark...
