This was on TN a few weeks ago, concerning the top ranking given to BsAs by the British travel magazine “Wanderlust.”

Despite the impressive parks and architecture of the city, I was surprised to see that BsAs topped the list because so little care is given to keeping the city clean of litter, removing graffiti, etc. It seems the other factors besides physical beauty of cities were considered.

“According to the organizers, the choice is due to the vibrant creative energy of Buenos Aires' neighborhoods, the resurgence of milongas , and the rise of young chefs who are transforming the local culinary scene. Added to this is the characteristic hospitality of Buenos Aires residents and a cultural scene as broad as it is diverse.

“The city boasts over 7,000 restaurants , 287 theaters , 350 bookstores and 150 museums , figures that position it as one of the most active cultural capitals in the world.”

Un ranking internacional eligió a Buenos Aires como la ciudad más atractiva del mundo
La capital argentina fue destacada por su cultura, su energía creativa y la calidez de su gente.

The architecture is a bit of a mash up, but it's certainly vibrant!

I think it's deserved. Anyone I know who's been there on holiday has raved about it.

The last 3 foreigners I met (all guests in our Airbnb or the next one) fell in love with it and talked about moving here one day. One even asked for immigration advice!

The city is/was very attractive. I find it quite rundown now.

Sorry to be negative. But no one seems to bother to maintain things in a normal and coherent fashion.

    Of course it is.

Hopefully the revamp of the city centre will make it even better. It was looking pretty sad when we were there in May.

I do agree, GlasgowJohn . That’s what I meant in my original post, about paper litter, graffiti, etc. There doesn’t seem to be any part of city government tasked with maintenance and street cleaning.

Maybe this contest should be called the Most Appealing City instead of the Most Attractive City, since they consider so much more than appearance. If you’ve ever been to Singapore, you’ll know that there’s not a cleaner or better maintained city in the world. But most visitors aren’t tempted to move there.

Thank you for the support!
