Now that's great technology! But gravel is our worst enemy and potholes, which are endemic in the UK. The roads over there are atrocious.

Today, coming back from the centre on Lugones next to the airport, I spotted a bad tarmac repair on the concrete surface which had created a mound about six inches high and a foot wide. Luckily I was able to avoid it at the last second because those kinds of things can throw you.

I always carry a satellite personal locator beacon when trekking, often try to remember to leave in the car during road trips. There are so many places without cell service here, so these PLBs are much safer. It is a manual button to activate. The battery last 5-6 years so an expensive device that is never used, though best to think it is like an insurance policy of $50-100 per year.
The same of international service network that were common for marine travel in the days before cellular, and still are in use.
