The 30% vs 70% mentioned in this article is very concerning. Is this an exaggeration? Do you have any way to guess if 30% do have an easy life (shopping trips to Miami, frequenting out, etc) while 70% are struggling more under the austerity measures?

This suggests that the middle class is disappearing. What is your experience?

Guillermo Oliveto: Milei’s austerity has created a ‘dual society’
Voters are asking themselves “for what purpose and for how long” they should tolerate President Javier Milei’s austerity plan, says economist.

For as long as it takes to get this country back on its feet and Sunday's mid-terms are vital for Milei to increase his presence in the Congress and move along with his restructuring.

I think 70% is a media exaggeration and let's not forget that Milei always said that it would be painful, like turning a huge ship around. I can wait, but I hope it's NOT the Titanic.

We all hope it’s not the Titanic.

But do you see any empirical evidence of a definite split between haves and have-nots, or is there still a strong middle group?

The BA Times is indeed in the K camp. That’s why I asked if you, yourselves, notice this reported divide in your daily lives? Is it just anti-Milei media reporting that a large number of people are doing without, while a smaller number spend money as if they are “Rich as an Argentine,” as the early 20th century expression went?

I can see that the poor are getting poorer and the rich richer. You only have to see the opulence of new cars rolling up and down Libertador in Zona Norte.

It's just the usual drivel spouted by politicians and their supporters.

I've been seeing that ever since the day I was born.

What I have noticed and the missus agrees is there aren't as many people riding bicycles nowadays. There are far more motor bikes and cars on the roads though.

Well this article is not from BATimes. It is Agence France-Presse AFP.com. Republished by BATimes. Plus that French reporter is based in Uruguay and Argentina. They often publish articles from AFP. They also republish articles from Bloomberg which is highly business friendly and a daily read on Wall Street. As opposed to other editorial and staff weekly columnists at that paper.

And the entire article is only a short lead up to paragraphs of direct quotes of recent statements from the Economist Guillermo Oliveto, the author of Clase media argentina: entre el mito, la realidad y la esperanza (“Argentina’s Middle Class: Between Myth, Reality and Hope”).
