Las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo became a controversial group in the 21st century, but they started in 1977 as a very necessary and important group of women dedicated to finding their children and grandchildren who were “disappeared” by Videla’s military thugs. This woman is greatly to be admired for her lifelong pursuit of justice.

Unfortunately the group fell into disrepute and became totally partisan. Hebe Bonafini, the corrupt and violent ultra K, tarnished their reputation and I no longer follow the group, beneficial though its aims were.

Splinter , you are totally right! Bonafini certainly tarnished the name and the reputation of the Madres de Mayo.

Her relationship with CFK made many people doubt about the real objectrives of the Madres de mayo

Totally agree about Bonafini. But I never heard of Roisinblitt being connected to the scandals. Was she? Or is there a tendency to assume guilt by association and tar everyone in the group with the same brush? Surely we must admire the determination and hard work that led these women to track down the fates of the ‘disappeared’ young people - - and to find their stolen babies.
