Will the people of the USA continue to snooze while catapulting into fascism, or will they wake up before the point of no return?

Labor Day, today, will bring 1,000 demonstrations across the country. And then ??

Have any US protests ever resulted in an administration changing course? That's probably even less likely today, but probably a hardening of its stance.

I put it down to apathy.

I have read that it takes 3% of the population to protest, in order to start to really make a change. If this is correct, it would take roughly 10 million protesters to start opening eyes.

If this number has to come from a single event or even a single day’s events, it’s highly improbable that the number could be reached. But if the number can be cumulative, it is achievable.

The Hands Off and No Kings protests from a few months ago drew large crowds in hundreds of cities. Today’s Workers Over Billionaires protests will be in 1000 cities and towns across the country and will receive media attention because holiday weekends are slow news days.

To your point, Splinter , no, the protests will not cause the regime to change direction. But it will show voters and their elected representatives that a growing number of people oppose the takeover of our government, and will perhaps give them courage to also stand up and be counted.

It is really disheartening to witness what has been going on in America these days. Worst of it, you cannot even speak about it freely in fear of backlash. It seems unbelievable this was the same country that 200+ years ago was created to escape monarchy and later gave home to immigrants escaping/surviving mass-murdering regimens. It is even more unbelievable considering that many Latinos are in the US because they have fled countries ridden by gangs and dictators, and then re-elected Trump. Either they are dumb or they don't see what we see.

It seems nobody is safe anymore in the US. Whether you are a visitor, a resident or a citizen, no rule applies. You can be questioned, your status revoked, no trial, no contest allowed. Wtf?!

Personally, I don't think a strong enough catalyst has arrived yet. There are rumblings in the UK just now, but again, nothing that is enough to really push people to mass protest.

Cast you minds back to December 2001 in Argentina and you'll see very clear reasons why the people took to the streets - just think about their pockets and what little food and employment there was, not to mention the financial restrictions. I believe the US populace needs a similar catalyst to really push against. Disliking the dictator and his policies simply isn't enough.

You could be right. One other big difference with Argentina in 2001 is that the Argentines had not been fed a steady diet of disinformation. Americans would be likely to overlook even the new tax inn the form of the tariffs which are about to hit the consumers, i.e., middle and lower classes, as they have been told that the countries being tariffed (verbicization again) are the ones who will pay. Just as Mexico was paying for The Wall. But I digress. And if they DO notice that they are poorer than when he took office, there’s a remedy for that too: it is all Obama’s fault or Biden’s fault.

    It's always someone else's fault...
