It works well in Carrefour and I use it all the time to avoid queueing.

I'm sure it'll eventually become the norm here however the lack of staff training/assistance seems to be the problem here.

Even in the UK they still seem to be problems with it. When we were in Tesco this year we were directed to go to the staffed fag counter to pay for our shopping as we hadn't a clue what to do.

I use it in Jumbo and it works fairly well. But I get pissed off when they check your ticket item by item.

I don't like that either. In Carrefour there are security cameras directly above each auto checkout, so manual checking really isn't necessary.

i'm not referring to self checkout. these are the handheld things where you scan as you shop. far easier to manipulate

They'll be wanting the shoppers to fill the shelves next. :D

I have used it in carrefour, too, but it much less trust-based compared to the UK. Basically, it is manned, but they check the receipts vs scanning the items.

Sorry, didn't realise you meant that. I haven't seen those here yet.

Never seen those in Argentina, either. I would guess that such an expensive piece of electronics, left at the clients' mercy, wouldn't last long. I have seen them in Italy, but never used them. A friend of mine reported they are very practical.

However, self-anything presumes a level of trust in the client that it is hard to achieve in Argentina.
