The TV news has been full of reports of the deaths as a result of contaminated drugs.
The Guardian highlighted it today.
Not good.
laissez faire libertarians have eliminated the government inspectors and regulations. Having the industry self monitor is thought to be more efficient without considering these dangerous mistakes.
When efficiency is king, safety is relegated to the dungeon. That is a real pity. And it is already coming to a country near and dear to me, with ‘regulations’ now a dirty word, right up there with “climate change.”
Totally unrelated, but on topic re: self-monitoring.
Recently, the ANMAT forced Colgate to callback from the Argentinian market certain toothpastes branded Colgate. because it contains a colorant which had caused irritations in the mouth in Brazil. Over 11,000 complaints of adverse effects were filed in Brazil, but Colgate had no issue in marketing their products in Argentina. Me think.... they just rerouted their supplies from Brazil to Argentina, as Brazil banned that product.
Of course, I had been using exactly that toothpaste in the past months and experienced mouth infections (especially mouth ulcers and irritated gums) for several months. I would have never imagined it was the toothpaste!
Of course, I had just restocked our supply of toothpaste in June before leaving since it was on offer at Farmacity.
After telling my mother about this, I now have 7 pieces of European-madre toothpaste in my suitcase. Of all things I ever wanted to bring with me to Argentina, I would have never imagined that toothpaste were one of them!
Esta medida obedece el creciente número de eventos adversos reportados por consumidores argentinos tras el uso de la crema dental “Colgate Total Active Prevention Clean Mint”, el que al día de la fecha arriban a 19 (diecinueve) casos recabados por la empresa Colgate Palmolive Argentina SA (hasta el 7 de julio de 2025) y dos casos recibidos por Cosmetovigilancia de la ANMAT (hasta 15 de julio de 2025).
Como antecedente, existe un elevado número de supuestos casos de eventos adversos asociados al uso del producto, recibidos por parte de la empresa COLGATE PALMOLIVE en Brasil, el que, de acuerdo a lo informado por la misma empresa, arribaría a 11.441 casos, recabados desde su lanzamiento en julio de 2024 hasta el 18 de junio de 2025.
El producto comercializado en Brasil comparte con el comercializado en Argentina la misma fórmula cuali-cuantitativa, origen y planta elaboradora.
