Didn't have a clue about this.

Argentina is the biggest exporter of peanuts in the world.

Nice. Important to add to the variety of agricultural products that are exported. Article says it has been increasing. Also sounds like they are increasing domestic interest, plus innovative byproduct use including potential medicine to fight dengue.

One would think they'd make more of it, but besides spread and turrón, they don't.

And until the past few years, peanut butter has been very rare in Argentina. We always brought multiple jars in with us, at the request of Argentine friends.

The peanut butter we brought from the USA into Argentina was probably made from peanuts exported from Argentina to the USA. 🤪

Yes, many brands of peanut butter now. I stopped bringing in luggage 15 years ago after finding a few here, and now even easiest to find in all big markets.

I do not use peanut butter often on bread, though I do use as an ingredient to add it recipes. Just a spoon to breakfast oatmeal, or the occasional cookies. Spicy peanut noodles is the most common, to emulate an Asian noodle dish. Cold as a side, or hot. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/102073…ken-and-peanuts

I used to eat peanut butter in Scotland when I was young. Not sure why but I stopped eating it. I've seen it in the shops here and often been tempted to buy some to see how it compares to the stuff I used to eat. As my missus hates the stuff I haven't bothered though. I'll get around to trying it one of these days.

I've tried several peanut butter brands, including SunPat in the UK and without doubt my favourite is this one which is widely available here. Crunchy is best!

That's a shame. In like it on buttered toast.

I do not really like the stuff. Not the way we ate it when we were young, and how it is still served to children. As a sandwich (peanut butter and jelly) or whatever.

For Adult recipes though it has a function which is to add some peanut, or just some vague nut flavor. Of course only use the salt and sugar free which is actually easier in argentina.

Also a great protein punch when exercising or some other similar activity

I love it. Especially fresh-ground peanuts with nothing else added. But I also go for the kid-style, and I do like crunchy.

Argentine peanuts maintain a leading global position in terms of quality and traceability . Between 70% and 80% of the peanuts imported into Europe are Argentine, thanks to the industry standards, vertical integration, and total control of the production process enjoyed by the companies in the supply chain.

“Unlike other origins such as China or India, where there are millions of small producers, in Argentina the chain is concentrated in 22 companies that guarantee origin and quality from planting to export,”

With peanuts so plentiful in Argentina, and so inexpensive, it is surprising that peanut butter is not more popular.

Indeed. Took me ages to find it in the big supermarkets here. When I did they only had a couple of brands mostly smooth type. Dulce de leche rules here.

The good thing is it is a profitable export to grow the economy. Not in the top earners, but at least adds to the diversity of their agricultural output

Yes! Completely agree. Perhaps Argentina will even produce a George Washington Carver, to increase appreciation at home.

We keep a bowl of peanuts on the table for snacking. Peanut butter only to add to the occasional recipe
