I would so love to do what these people did.

    And to have their budget.

“In Argentina, if you have a house, you’ll have a quincho; if you live in an apartment, you’ll have a quincho as part of the amenities. It’s such an ingrained part of the culture.”

Only $450k to buy the empty lot next door, and another $1,000,000 USD to build the 'quincho'

I’m glad neither is originally an American, but damn! Didn’t they pick up conspicuous consumerism quickly.

I almost spit out my lungs when I read this.

The irony of it is that Argentine culture is more of cheap ways to stay together. Yes, the quincho is an annex to the main house, used for family gatherings. However, it is done cheaply, with a large table, uncomfortable chairs and camping-style equipment (except for the main piece, the parrilla, which is restaurant-quality). As the parrilla smoke is very strong, it is not a fresh&clean and WASP past-time and I would not encourage wearing white at a parrilla. But likely, these kind of people are simply hiring an Argentinian parrilla master to come cook for them.

Despite their expensive effort, they totally missed the cultural point and turned their expensive quincho in yet another way to boast their wealth with their friends.
