The big rumour tonight is that USA will announce early next week that Argentine nationals will be able to enter the country without having a full visa.

They will be able to apply for an Esta visa online , in line with many European countries.

There is also some talk about US customs and immigration processes being conducted at Argentine airports. This happens fore example in Ireland.

This saves you a huge amount of time as queues in the USA can be ridiculous at busy times.

Is the USA trying to make up for the enormous loss of tourists during the past 6 months?

Overstay, or in the company of someone who has, and you end up in the new mosquito infested detention center without legal representation

Human rights abuses are probably the very worst of the crimes being committed at the highest level of this government.

And the Burmese pythons are becoming as plentiful as the mosquitoes in Florida’s Everglades.

I don't really care if Milei is sucking up to that chump in the White House, as long as it benefits this country.

Sure, there's probably a quid pro quo, but if it works, it works.

Unfortunately, only history will tell if Milei’s sucking up works. History has taught us that it has emphatically NOT worked in the past. Did we learn?

There were countries whose leaders tried appeasement of bullies in the 1930’s, thinking it would benefit their countries. It did not.

[I’m looking at you, Great Britain and France.]

I’m pretty shocked at your post, Splinter . I hope you re-think the serious risks that can stem from possible short-term gain.

According to yesterdays announcement both countries have agreed to study the possibility of Argentina joining the visa waiver programme.

It is nothing more than a letter of intention at this point.

US officials indicated that it would be at least 12 months before anything happened.

Some US newspapers are saying maybe 2 years....

If the end result is to help Argentines in the visa waiver program, not to mention agreeable tariffs for this country, then so be it.

I'm well aware that chump is a bully, but sometimes you have to negotiate with bullies.

That could be a whole new thread

Should you negotiate with bullies or ignore them totally and hope that they will disappear?

And is there a difference between negotiating and sucking up? [hint: Yes]

Rice , I get what you are saying.

Unfortunately , not so long ago, we were sucking up to Russia, China, and some very dodgy countries in the Middle East.

Being close to the USA , even though you have doubts about the country's leader, is preferable.

And this just arrived in my inbox.

Chamberlain appeasing Hitler was a much more serious scenario and we all know how that ended up.

At the time they thought appeasement would work. And, like the 21st century world, they also couldn’t imagine that the situation was as dangerous as we now know it to have been.

History tells us what to watch out for.
    Hindsight can be tragic.
