Typical. Chivilcoy waited years to get one and now they're selling up according to news reports.

Carrefour anunció su salida de la Argentina
Se debate si se trata de un éxodo empresarial o de un caso aislado.

I read a similar story, but NOT that Carrefour is leaving, but the company was looking for a buyer for its Argentine operation.

There's a list here of possible buyers.

Can't say I blame them. It must be a nightmare operating anything in this country.

That is some big news. Not encouraging for anyone expecting international companies to come and invest in Argentina.

Economics journalist Silvia Naishtat agrees: "Carrefour has become too big for a country that has become too small." The expert warns that the social situation has a decisive influence:

"With a poverty rate of 30% and half the population struggling to make ends meet, Argentina is no longer an attractive market for many major brands."

Seems Carrefour have suspened the sale and will continue to operate in Argentina. Even improving the brand.

I just wish the one in Chivilcoy would restock Mecklenburger Dunkel beer. They haven't had any for weeks and weeks. Every time I put some in my shopping cart it says ''sin stock''. :groan:

Thanks for letting us know. I had no idea.

What puzzles me though is how offers in one branch are not available in another just a few blocks away - Acassuso and Martinez for example. This then requires me to do the usual Argie merry-go-round.

Based on your favourable comments I got 3 cans of Dunkel at the local Carrefour maxi this afternoon. My comments to follow.

Vea seems to do something similar. Vea prices on certain products here are cheaper than in BA.
