Was getting the rundown from Nazarena today about what to expect when attending her daughter Morena's 15th birthday party in a few weeks time. As my missus is her Godmother I have no choice but to attend. I was quite happy to go until I was told I have to take to the floor and dance with the poor girl in front of everyone. As if that wasn't bad enough it seems it's customary for all the males young and old to attend wearing a suit jacket, shirt and tie...how bloody odd is that? Not only do I hate dancing I hate even more having to wear a shirt and tie. Here's hoping they serve wine as I'll certainly need a few especially for the dancing part. ![]()
Do I really have to wear a jacket, shirt and tie?

Think about it as attending a marriage (into adulthood). The girl will wear a dress, possibly a gown, and will receive gifts (even a trip to Disney World, if the family can afford it).

So that's what it's all about. Don't see why grumpy old me has to wear a suit though in this day and age.

You can manage! Dressing up shows respect for the girl in this very important rite of passage.
As for the dancing, how do we get a video?

Like me she doesn't seem that keen on dressing up either.
As for the video......think when the dancing starts I'll head outside for a fag.

I rather enjoy wearing my best suit from time to time and Adri appreciates it too!
At her father's funeral I wore a dark suit and a black tie. I was the only one and some even questioned me about it.

While we were in Kelso the missus went to the Sunday mass with me following on behind. She told me just to wear my jeans like I do here when I accompany her. I told her it's not usual for people in the UK to go to church on a Sunday in jeans. I made a point of looking at what everyone was wearing and right enough unlike here I was the only person in jeans.

The last 15yo party I was at was a few years back. I wore my fancy suit but no tie.

Casual dressing in general has been trending up for decades, but I think the COVID lockdown was the death knell for attire more formal than jeans and running shoes. After working from home, none of the women in know ever wear high heels anymore, and most are also freed from makeup, dyed hair, and other vestiges of Louis XIV’s court.
For certain occasions, dressing more than casually is definitely called for. But because it’s not a daily or even weekly event, it does seem like a major undertaking instead of a slight inconvenience. I LIVE in jeans and sweaters, and am already dreading a couple of dress-up events this weekend. 😱

Me too! I was at my husband’s late grandfather funeral and I was the only one dressed formally. I was asked why by a cousin. I told him this is how we do it in Italy. Omitted “it is a way to pay respect to the deceased” because I am sure this is not as common a funeral attire as it was the past.

I simply said, "Because it's a funeral."

Well I see the missus has located my wedding suit and has it hanging up airing.

If I get the choice I'll wear the shirt, tie and jacket but with casual trousers and shoes. It's not until the 5th of July so I've got time to work on it.

Ah, Mr Bond, we've been expecting you...

Wear a kilt?

Just spoken to Nazarena and she's told me jeans with a suit jacket, shirt and tie is fine. I can ditch the jacket and tie soon as my dance with the lassie is over.

We want the video.
