Since it is cold and I am sick at home, I am using this movie available on Netflix to psychologically induce my brain in thinking it is not that cold.

You could always turn the heating up!
But then I would miss the fire cracking sound!
(I am using heating from AC because the old gas stove is not heating much)

For the third time, Relatos Salvajes (Wild Tales), a tour de force of storytelling and black, black humour.
My particular favourite is Bombita, played by Ricardo Darin, which I think we can all relate to.

I'm getting "video unavailable." YouTube must have a geographic restriction, so I'll look forward to seeing it when back in town --

I am seeing a Spanish series titled "Tiempos de Guerra" (War times).
It tells the story of a group of nurses, led by a Duchess, which goes to Spanish Morocco around 1921 to help the wounded soldiers which are at war with Abd-el-Krim, an arab leader which challenged the Spanish and French dominions in Northern Africa.
The story is very well rendered. Vehicles, artifacts, weapons and environment are really done with the utmost care.
This period of the Spanish history is almost forgotten because the Civil War (1936-1939) dwarfes other periods.
It is interesting to recall that as Spain remained neutral in the I WW, it skipped the difficulties of other countries and was enough strong to defend their African possessions (Since the XVI Century some parts of Morocco were Spanish dominions.
I look forward to see the whole serie, but since now I can recommend this to see.

People still use DVDs?
In my small town there is still a DVD rental place. That's their only line of business. I wondered the same when I saw it was still open. Who is still renting DVDs?
However, even 35-something sometimes do not yet use credit cards. It is incredible to me, but people can be very stubborn and let them condition by their parents, who are also stubborn.

Although we rely heavily on Netflix, the content is somewhat limited, especially in countries outside North America. It is great to run across a DVD of a film that is hard to find, and to that purpose, I just bought an external DVD drive for a new laptop.
For those who travel to remote places, DVD’s can be lifesavers. We are currently in a beach area and are without internet or tv. Enter the nearby town’s public library, with extensive DVD collection!
A related question: Does anyone still go to the cinema? A real effort is being made by the ones offering upholstered, reclining seats and menus for chef-prepared meals served with wine. But besides this novelty, are ordinary cinemas holding their own?

I don't think that cinemas are so well equipped in Buenos Aires. At least, the one where I went in Vicente Lopez was pretty basic and old-fashioned.
In the US it was a lot better, with VR and other amenities such as super comfortable armchairs, etc.
There is a small, independent theater on the next block and for just $200 you can buy a seat to a 1-hour show. I have been planning to attend a performance, sooner or later.

What kind of show? Sounds interesting.
I don’t like theatres with plush armchairs and chef-prepared meals. I prefer the small, old-fashioned ones.

They are small independent shows, I think we could define them fictional stories real-life inspired. You can read the current shows, with price and reviews, here: http://www.alternativateatral.…pacio3321-teatro-la-mueca

The renovated space sounds really nice. I'm afraid my Spanish comprehension (still at stage of translating every word) isn't anywhere near where I'd need to be in order to follow even a 1-hour program. When we tune in to a Spanish-language TV show, I quickly bow out.

Last night we saw this documentary on implanted medical devices and their effect on the body. The documentary is based on real-life cases in the United States, ranging from the birth control device called Essure to cobalt-coated bone implants. It reveals the little to no control that the FDA does when a new medical device is going to be marketed (unlike drugs). Basically, the industry found a loophole in the FDA regulation as you can market whatever thing if you demonstrate there is a pre-approved device of similar characteristics. By using this argument, there is very little that can be done.
It was enlightening. Basically, if you are having an autoimmune response and you had a medical device implanted, that could be the cause.
