I was a sales rep for many years back in the 80s and 90s and had dozens of company cars, many of which were absolute turds. But some were just superb, so I can relate to this documentary!

My very first company car was a Ford Orion 1.6 Ghia in 1985.

    I loved that car.....

My first was a red Ford Cortina Mk V 1.6L in around 1980, like this one.

And this is the worst company car I ever had!

    Designed in Italy, my arse!

As good as it got for me. Had one of these back when I was a delivery boy for Curley's.

Is that video for real? The snobbery concerning the type of car is amusing.

    Very real.

I was on the road for nearly twenty years and believe me, which car you were given meant a lot because we spent most of our lives living in it. The best company car I had was a Ford Granada 2.8GL automatic like this one.

Over the years I had several Ford Cortinas, Sierras and even an Austin Ambassador automatic, which actually turned out to be a pretty good car.

When I started my own business in 1989, my car acquisitions really ramped up over fifteen years, so I'll get back to that later when I can remember them all.

When I intimated to one of my bosses in Scotland that I was thinking of leaving the company he said , What do you think if i change your car from an orion to a Granada?

No talk of extra pound notes in the bank account though.

I’ve no doubt that the comfort of a car is very important to anyone who spends hours every day in one.

What amused me about the video was the guy lamenting that the status symbol “i” was not sufficient blatant on his car as to be seen (envied) by other drivers

...and that the 'i' stands for important!

But it's true that if you have a lower spec car than your colleagues who do exactly the same job, you get a bit miffed.

This happened to me once and since my sales performance was pretty good, I complained and got upgraded to a Cortina 2.3Ghia automatic. Luxury!
