This is not an unusual event either. I can easily spot at least ten unfit vehicles on the roads here every day. Despite that the authorities don't stop and catch them until after they've caused an accident.

Hardly surprising since the VTV cost is extortionate.

My missus temporarily failed hers in the last new car that hardly had 10,000 kms on the clock when she went to get it. All because a brake light bulb had popped. She was blazing mad while I just stood there laughing in disbelief when you could see the amount of old bangers passing by on the road at the time.

I'm not disputing the fact she'd failed and had to go and get a new one before they'd issue her the new MOT. However there does seem to be obvious rules for the 'willings' and rules for the 'don't give a fucks' in this country.

Sometimes it really feel like a joke that you can get fined or admonished for a burnt light when you see cars that never in my lifetime I had seen (I am 42). I am with your missus, UK Man !

It's such things that give me no hope this country is ever going to change. As far as I'm concerned it's located in the wrong continent. A case of love it or leave it.....

    But there are grey areas...

My bike has two LED spots fitted to the engine protection bars - so that idiot drivers can see me - but it fails because they are not of the original bike design. However, after failing the inspector tells me to cover them with black bin liner plastic and then gives me the pass.

So now, I just go to the VTV centre with them covered. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I'll tell the missus to carry some black tape next time she goes then. :D
