And more than 4 hours after the initial pwer cuts , they till dont know the reason!

Transport badly affected - everything from traffic lights to airports.

Phone services badly hit as well .

    WhatsApp only working intermittently.

I messaged my ex who lives there, forgetting that she wouldn't get the message. Obviously no reply.

I think the world would feel a lot better to learn that this wasn’t due to the actions of bad actors. What an enormous area to be affected!

It's said that atmospheric conditions caused it.

    That strikes me as bizarre.

This BBC story has some interesting details on how people coped with the unexpected ramifications of not having power. This makes me think twice about the cashless trend.

Even if you have cash, in many places you can't use it if the systems are down. This happened in Carrefour recently.

    True. Cash registers require electricity!

But in the case of a widespread power outage, if you have NO cash, you can’t even buy fruit & veggies from a guy sitting on the corner making change from his pocket.

These stories always do the rounds when these things happen. The recent Heathrow outage attracted similar claims. The cause is far more likely to have been human error or bad luck.

I’m hoping for human error or bad luck. It’s encouraging that none of the major news outlets seem to be running the story.

I am being very cynical and say they will never tell us the truth in any case.

Very possibly, but I think there is a whole lot happening that we never hear about.
