Like many, I've been using Skype for donkey's years and the recent updates to it let you change video background among other useful features. Also, you could make a test call, check your video and audio settings and everything was very easy to use.

Now Microsoft wants us to use Teams which is awful.

Alternatives are WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Viber, so I'm going to try them all and write an article on my findings.

Teams is a decent application but it is not a replacement for Skype.

The beauty of Skype was/is you could dial a landline or a mobile for a very small cost. Teams does not have this facility.

Also for the last 25 years I have had a Scottish telephone number which was diverted to my Argie mobile phone. I rented this from Skype for a very small annual cost.....there are alternatives available but I am hanging on until the last moment.

I really cannot understand why they are ditching Skype.

I still have 4.85 euros Skype credit which I've always used for landlines, but you will still be able to use that, I believe.

It's called Skype dial pad here...

Used to have it years ago when it was new and all the rage but used the AIM Instant Messenger more.

WhatsApp does me now for keeping in touch with folks in the UK.

Skype was a great bridge for me, betwee pre-cell phone days of buying100 minute phone calling cards, and now using WhatsApp and low per-minute costs on my phone.
