Anyone who has been to our house will know that we live on a busy road. It's especially noisy in rush hour, even though it's not a main drag as it were. People use it to get around the traffic lights on Libertador and on the weekends it's jammed packed with cyclists, joggers and deliver bikes.

Our current windows are single glazed, probably over 25 years old and of terrible grey aluminium. It's so noisy sometimes that I have to wear headphones to watch TV.

Anyway, they are each around 2.5m x 1.5m in size and we've received three quotes, ranging in price by a staggering amount.

For both, the prices are between USD 6000 and USD2000. No prizes for guessing which one we'll go for and fortunately, the cheaper company is recommended by our architect in-laws.

I know double glazing isn't used as much in BA, but in our case it's now become a necessity.

It should save you a lot in heating and AC bills, in addition to the relative quiet.

We have installed it downstairs and the change is amazing. It felt almost lonely at first without the noise in the background from the outdoor world.
Upstairs we still have the old stuff and I can’t stand it anymore.
They are also great at insulating heat/cold.

We have installed Rehaus, made in Germany, and their showroom is in Martinez (Cuyo 1900 - https://www.rehau.com/ar-es). The showroom is only for show. To buy them you have to pick one of the many resellers.

The one we picked is based in Belgrano, as it was the most reliable one. It was Lusso: https://www.lussosrl.com.ar/fabrica-de-abe…e-pvc-rehau.php

the other ones, even if they quoted cheaper, had horrible reviews on google (they disappeared with the deposit).

    That's great info serafina

I'm wondering if they can match USD 2500 for two large windows though?

We have double glazing here. It was in the house when we bought it.

Fairly decent but a couple of the windows were badly installed and we will have to get them fixed....so day....

We finally ordered the two double glazed windows today through a firm that my sister in law (architect) has been working with for decades.

They should be fitted in a few weeks and I'm looking forward to the difference they are going to make.

The windows were fitted yesterday in less than six hours. Two large ones over 2m wide and our bedroom window. They made new frames which they placed over the old ones which saves a lot of structural work.

It's made a huge difference both in noise reduction and keeping the heat in. Let's see how they perform in summer!

    Delighted and not that expensive.

Always good to get tradesman recommended by someone you know and trust.

Thankfully the windows that look on to our road are in rooms we rarely use so noise isn't a problem. Not that it's that noisy.....apart from the young eejits on motor bikes with modified exhausts.
