At around 0700 this morning when clearing the storm drain outside our house, I spotted a small wooden box discarded at the side of the road, which turns out the an urn containing the ashes of a man who died in 1974.

We think that perhaps it's the result of burglary and thrown away by the robbers, perhaps?

Anyway, I've written to the council asking for advice and have placed it safely in our garage.

    Weird.

It certainly beats my garden Airtag find. Hopefully you'll have better luck finding the owner than I've had.

I remember reading a book a few years back and the family who owned the urn used to keep gold coins in amongst the ashes.....

Just though it was worth a comment....

    'Don't annoy the dead'.

Could be a plot for a horror movie. Especially if the lid comes off!!

I contacted the local council because I thought there was a procedure to follow, but they said ditch it. I also posted in our local residents' Whatsapp group but no one was interested and Adri found it all a bit creepy.

In the end I put the box back roughly where I found it, back on the grass verge opposite our house.

It would be interesting to see what the reaction would be if a similar situation had to happen in the UK. I can't believe the local council there would just tell you to ''ditch it'' although you never know.
