It's tragic what's happening in Los Angeles with many fires totally out of control.

LA fires: What's happening in Los Angeles, and what caused the wildfires?
Everything you need to know about the blazes that have forced thousands to leave their homes.

The hurricane-force winds have both fueled the fires and impeded the firefighting work. The drought has also depleted water sources. Impossible!

So Cal native here. Wildfires in California are pretty much an every day thing. Where I used to live, on the edge of the Angeles National Forest, I don't know anyone who hasn't either been evacuated or housed a friend or relative who was evacuated.

This one is getting attention because of where it is, more than how bad it is. In 2018 the town of Paradise was 100% destroyed and 85 people died. In 2007 500,000 San Diegans were forced to evacuate by the Witch Creek Fire. Etc.

Until California decides to engage in actual forestry practices most of the world takes for granted, it will keep happening.

    It's horrific!

Photos of Los Angeles fires show blazes ripping through neighbourhoods
The fires have been spreading rapidly because of high winds and very dry conditions.

I'm surprised by how low the death toll has been. Especally consideng how rapid the fires have spread in the built up areas. A lot of folk seem to wait until the last minute before getting out.

Same here. One of the first pictures I saw was traffic backed up by accidents on the main roads in/out of the Palisades. Fortunately people got around them or were able to walk out, I guess.

And a lot of vehicles left on the streets were bulldozed out of the way so firefighters could get to the burning houses.
